Since this image was voted by our members, it will be our Site's official logo from now on.
For those who joined after 07/07/07 perhaps are wondering why the Site name is HeliTown while the Site URL is www.rchelicoptertown.com (http://www.rchelicoptertown.com). So here is a little story:
This Site originated from our first website at www.helitown.com (http://www.helitown.com). www.helitown.com (http://www.helitown.com) was created initially because I got frustrated by RCgroups Admin team, as I was having a hard time to get them make a link thread I developed for MX400 heli owners at RCgroups sticky. After some pressures from other members, they made the thread sticky and that thread is still the only MX400 Link thread at RCgroups until now.
To avoid any red tapes and possible delays to make other link pages for RC helicopter pilots, I created www.helitown.com (http://www.helitown.com) on 04/15/2006 and called it HeliTown. I continued to add more link pages to www.helitown.com (http://www.helitown.com) and provided links to RCgroups and other forums. In a matter of a few months, between my full time job, being a father and a husband and trying to learn about the hobby myself, I got link pages added to HeliTown for about 50 different helicopters.
People didn't just come to HeliTown to find the information and follow the link to other websites, they asked, shared, talked and some of them became my friends via email. The idea of adding a forum so we all could talk came to mind. So HeliTown forum was created and went live on 9/1/2006. The forum was supported by two Tech Support members (myself and G-MRM who I got to know via HeliTown) and one moderator (The Broker). Then I got swatson144 who used to help me with my MX400 problems at RCgroups to provide more supports. Then, I got Ranger and other Tech Support Team to join in soon after.
Everything went fine until last April when our site was hacked and then Yahoo's hosting services (our web hosting provider) went sour. Out Site went down for almost a week and then the forum was very slow. A decision was made together with our Admin Team to leave Yahoo and use a better forum software.
To minimize long disruption to the forum activities, instead of migrating www.helitown.com (http://www.helitown.com) to the new host, www.rchelicoptertown.com (http://www.rchelicoptertown.com) was created on 07/07/07 with a new host and vBulletin. We could make the transition from the old forum to the new one with only a few hours of downtime and here we are now. We own both www.helitown.com (http://www.helitown.com) and www.rchelicoptertown.com (http://www.rchelicoptertown.com).
To maintain the memories of HeliTown's birth and continue our original community administration, our Admin Team has decided to also call the new site HeliTown. The goal is to consolidate both Sites into one in the near future.
So here is the story of how HeliTown was transformed from one link page to what we are today and why the name HeliTown is very significant to us. What HeliTown will be in the future is yet to come and it is up to the hands of heliTown's Admin Team, Tech Support, Moderators and the supports from our Members.
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank everybody for their continued contributions and supports to HeliTown. Let's continue to make HeliTown our town we all can share for years to come.
Enjoy
