Wow, big thread!
I just got a bcp and a hmax rotofly from a trade. Last night I took the blade out for a little test spin. I came to me with the "enhancments".
Now, I have never flown a cp this light before, so I had no idea what to expect.
I lifted off, to a hover, and was pleasantly suprised by how nimble the little bcp is. I was flying in light gusts, with a stock tail setup; so I kept it to tail in wandering, just getting a feel for it. The gusts had it doing alot of pogoing up and down, but other than that I though it flew pretty well. I do like the fact that this little cp is pretty quiet. On my larger ones, the rotor sound was kind of unnerving; but this one I was really comfortable with. I will definatly put a dd tail on it, and set it up with my 6i radio, but other than that, will prob leave this one alone. Oh, need to fuse the motor, also!
I understand why E and Zen like these. Do I think it is a $200 heli? No, but I do like it, and glad I got it in trade.

I have a modified BCPP with brush main and DD tail, cnc swash, Century one way hub and main gear, harden steel main shaft, super skid. A great flying heli, I need to consolidate my spare part and may let go of it soon.

E, I need some hlep!
I went to roll the heli invertad last night, it would not go upside down.
My blade has the bell/hiller, symertical blades, lipo, yada yada. Using the stock xmitter with it.
Anyway, i was in idle up, 20 ft up in a hover. I gave it full right cyclic, and it just banks. What else do i need to do to roll it over? What makes it actually go belly side up?

R, Do you have -9 to +9 pitch at idle up?
1, unplug both main and tail motor from 4in1
2, power up Tx, Rx, switch to idle up flight mode, move throttle stick to center, throttle trim at the lowest, the pitch should be "0", it is OK if -1 or +1.
3, check for +9 / -9 at up and down stick
4, at +9/-9, move the swash around to check for no binding
The seesaw, flybar, paddles, main blades, swash should be level and parallel at all pitch.

So, if I have 9 degrees pitch, I should be able to roll it inverted just using cyclic?
I guess i am wondering if you need to feed in some negative collective while rolling to get it to go upside down. I will check my pitch, it should be fine, though.

R, next is the reality check.
Warning!!! Be careful with the moving blades!!
The following procedure works for micro or smaller heli and may not be recommended for some people, I think it's OK if you know what you're doing, usually I do it in the garage with no one around and no car.
1, wear safety goggle or personal protection gear
2, hold the heli above your head
3, spool up in normal mode
4, flip to idle up, you can feel the lift and sink depends on the throttle stick position, then check for smooth lift transition and detect the sudden jump up "sticky collective" problem if there's one, you also can feel any vibration, I usually add tape to the blade to dynamic balance the rotor.
5, while you're there, check the blade tracking on both +ve and -ve pitch

When the heli turns side way, ie, blades verticle to the ground, your collective should be around zero pitch, once flip over to upside down, your collective should be negative.
The key point is the collective management which you have to experiment with.

All that is good. Blades track fine both pos and neg, so i don't need to do that. I might not have enough power left in the motor. I can hear it skip on occasion. I do need to check the pitch, though. I am flying it as it was sent to me by another member on rcuniverse.
I have flown inverted on sims, on the sim, a good cyclic throw will send you upside down. So I tried it in real life, but the heli blades never got vertical. I will check the pitch, and maybe put in a fresh motor, and try her again.

Oh, I noticed on this heli, with the stock tx, flipping to idle up anywhere above 50% is seamless. Until you give negative collective, then it is noticable, but not too bad. I landed in idle up without problems.
no sticky collective on this heli, either. Problem was solved by previous owner.

The power from the brush motor should be enough to flip, roll and fly inverted with 3S lipo if you keep the heli light, but there's not much power left and reserved from the brush motor to get you out of trouble and I find out over do the pitch say +12 to -12 will make the heli fly worst at high pitch level, the motor will bog down and head speed suffers.
The cyclic respond is kind of slow which probably is a good thing, that gives you a little more time to correct and adjust the flight pattern in the air.

After I crashed the BL CP2, I flew my back up brush motor CP2 and BCPP and the Trex 450SE today, the mini flips and inverted flights are easier to do than the micro, the control is more smooth. I think I may get rid of all the micros and concentrate flying the minis.

So far I have own and flown these CP micros: Walkera 22e; Blade CP, CPP; Century CP elite, 3D pro gear and belt drive; Compy 300; HDX 300 cnc head/tail; Esky CP2 brush and BL; also a (friend's) Firefox 100
The BL CP2 is the best so far but still no match to mini like the Trex 450SE and GL 450.

Ok, my pitch is +/- 10, and 0 at mid point. Will try to roll again. Have not tried a new motor yet, but it now has a new set of cp2 blades on it!
Funny you like the mini's more, I found I like the micros more. Between the two of us, we got the bases covered!
Hey, I have a spare esky 3900kv with a 10 tooth on it. Would it be a good match for this heli? Will a 15 amp gws esc handle it with that motor?

My pitch is +9/-9, 0 at mid point, a linear curve. I usually hover at around 75-80% which is about +6 pitch. I'm using the Esky 3900kv motor w/11T, green Esky 2S 800mah lipo pack from Lama, CC 10 esc and have good power to flip and fly inverted, I could use more power.
Estarter just gave me an Esky spindle shaft for the CP2 to put in my Blade CP Pro. It works, with the addition of two step washers, one on each side of the rotor head. See, the Esky part is about 2/3 mm longer than the E-flite part. It also costs about half as much as the E-flite part too!
P.S.: hardened shafts from HeliDirect are the same length as stock and cheaper than E-flite too.

I just got a BladeCP with two 11.1v lipos, but the lipos only have JST plugs, no balance taps. How can I charge these?
basic
05-07-2009, 08:54 AM
yoiu can charge through the JST plugs if you have an ok charger, you just can't balance them. However, I would be worried about the manu. date on the lipo - two and a half years ago. Chances are that most of the capacity for those lipos is gone unless they were stored at the correct voltage at a cool temp.

The pack in the pic has a date code 2005, are you flying the one in the pic?

I did, but I couldn't charge them. It's OK, I cut off the JST and soldered in a Deans - I can fly with my King2 pack. It's very heavy, but it flies. It's better than nothing... :)

again, i would be worried about flying packs that old. There is no way they have anywhere near their full capacity.

I agree, that is one reason why I am not using them - I am using my King2 pack instead (1800mAH) with Deans connector...
