Hello,

after ordering quite some parts for my E-Sky HB King 2 from www.rchelicoptershop.com I decided to go for the offer on 4x HPS18100 digital servo's to upgrade the existing plastic servo's. Main goal was to solve the continuous damage on servo gears, since the HPS18100 servo has metal gears. Unfortunately these servo's are bigger that the std. ones and quite some modifications are required to fit them. Then the direction of rotation is opposite to the std. servo's. The aileron, rudder and elevator function can be fixed by the switches on the transmitter, but the Collective Pitch can't be fixed. The swash plate moves DOWN when increasing throttle. The only way to fix this is to use a more advanced transmitter like a 6CH Futaba that has swash plate programs were you can reverse the operation of the swash plate.

After all the hours spent on the servo upgrade I decided to contact the supplier to let them know that this servo upgrade kit can't be used for the HB CP2 and King 2.

Camus of the rchelicoptershop took my complaint serious and the kit is now removed from the webshop. I have replaced the HPS18100 servo's with the original ones except for the rudder servo. The combination of a headlock gyro and the HPS18100 servo is really good. VERY stable tail. rchelicoptershop is now offering this as a kit by the way.

All in all, rchelicoptershop has shown good customer care, always fast with dispatch, all parts always in stock and last but not least all products have a competitive pricelevel! From Hong Kong to Norway it takes on the average only 3-4 days, and for some reason the always gready Norwegian Customs don't bother charging 25% tax on packages from rchelicoptershop.

I guess it all depends on where you live. The shipping from Hong Kong and customs hold ups doesn't make it a cost effective or timely option at all for me here in the US.

What HH gyro are you using Dutchie? The reason I ask is because the $30 HPS18100's speed is the same as the $5 stock 8g servo (Speed: 0.12 sec/60°). The torque is better, but my stock tail servo doesn't struggle at all to move the tail blades under load.

I do know that digital servos are superior and more precise but I'm trying to figure out if the tail holding so well is really moving to a digital servo or if it's the type of gyro and gyro settings used.

Are you stripping all the plastic servo gears crashing or did you have part binding or adjustment issues or what? Just curious as I've never stripped a stock servo gear and don't want to :)

Hi, Steve

I am using the E-Sky EK2-0704A Head Lock Gyro, as shown here: http://www.twf-sz.com/english/products.asp?prodid=0154

Maybe it is just my impression that the HPS18100 response is much faster. In any case it definetely is much quieter. The std. servo always was humming and buzzing.... But in general, the HH gyro alone is a great investment. Tail is fixed in your last input position. By the way, I read in some post that the circuit board inside the HH gyro not always is placed in the same position. Some posts will tell you it has to be put on its side, backplane facing both servo's, mine has to be put on its side, connector up and facing backwards.

On a crash with severe impact yes, the gears get stripped from a number of teeth. In my case mostly the elevator servo on the front of the HB King 2. You find out later when it jumps up or down wildly in flight when it misses a number of teeth...

There is an excellent series of YouTube video's on the setup of the HB King 2, and one deals with broken servo gears. Have a look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blb2n6_vLaI

Hi Martin,

Yup, I'm running that same gyro and have tried mounting it both ways but ended up with it positioned the same way you have it. I've flown with this gyro a long time and have spent a lot of time adjusting the gain to fine tune it but it still doesn't hold the tail that well during a punch out or any snap rolls etc. It's fine for circuits and stuff, but anything more and it wants to kick out for me. I guess when I can I'll swap out the servo with a digital one to see if that makes any difference. Thanks for the reply.

I, too, have stipped servo gears. I use towerpro's now. I keep the esky ones for my little fp helis.
I have first hand experience on esky HH gyro positioning. I have 3 of them, and one of them has to be installed upside down compared to the other two. That was a nice little suprise, let me tell you! ( why is my heli spinning?!)
