I received my sim today. I had devil of a time programing The controls.
finally noticed you must check all the Inv Boxes. DuuuHHH!!!!

Don't know if this will help any one or not.

Are the xmitter controls on the models as touchy as the controls on the Sim??

Any advice will be most welcome.

Yes the stick movements are very realistic. Getting the heli to lift off is easier than in real life though. In the sim the heli just lifts straight up with no input and in real life leaving the ground will cause a pitch and/or roll moment that needs correcting.

I dont think you should check all the "Inv" boxes (or you may get a fright when you fly the real thing).

My Mapping is:

Rudder Ch4
Elevator Ch3
Aileron Ch1 (Inverted)
Throttle Ch 2
Tail Ch4
Nick Ch3
Roll CH 1 (Inverted)
Pitch Ch2

Hi Griffen,
I must set my controls as follows,
Rudder 4
Eleva 2
Aileron 1
Throttle 3
This Gives Me-- LEFT stick Throttle/Rudder Right Stick Elevator/Aileron

Are STICK POSITIONS AND FLIGHT CONTROLS CORRECT ??????

ALSO ALL INV ARE CHECKED HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!

Envision yourself in the cockpit. If you raise the left stick the heli rises (throttle and collective). L stick right and the nose goes right "yaw right" (rudder)push the right stick forward and the nose goes down, pull back and it goes up (elevator). push right and the heli leans/rolls to the right. etc Everything makes sense from inside. Like a car.

Steve (who hopes that's what you are asking)

I thought I'd answered that pretty well in parens R stick is eles and Ails, L is throttle and rudder with collective/pitch mixed to throttle.

My FMS settings with the Esky USB sim TX

Steve,
Thank you for bearing with me. You did a very good job explaining the controls. I just wanted to make sure my thinking was correct and did not want to practice with controls wrong. Sorry don't want to be a pita.
And again THANKS to all for the help (very raw newbee)

No problem. I didn't intend to be short but I thought since the posts were so close in time you may not have seen it. I was kinda jokin around. Sorry it sounded wrong.

You certainly don't want to practise with the wrong sticks occasionally you run across someone who learned with the tail moving with the rudder stick.

I have been trying to get my TX to talk to my computer for 3 days. No luck. I am running Windows XP Home, version 2002, service pack 2. I bought an Esky Lama v4 and am trying to get the controller, a 0404, to interface with my computer, but nothing. When I plug the cable into a USB port, the computer recognizes the new hardware. Then when I start the SIM, go to Controls-Analog Controls and select Serial PIC-Interface and click Resources, I have the Protocol selected as 9600 Baud / 0xF0+ Sync. I have tried to calibrate using all 5 of the Com ports. It is like the software is not seeing the TX at all. I have read some other threads refer to PPM virtual joystick. Do I need to download and install that and use that for my interface? This shouldn't be this hard!!! I am used to plug and play these days. The computer is supposed to be smarter than I am, which shouldn't be that hard either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to have to practice on my new heli!

IMO do yourself a favor and cough up the 30$ for the esky USB sim box. It's plug and play and don't need batteries. After you get it working I think you'll find that keeping the batteries charged to sim is a PITA.

Thanks Steve. But you know that's not what I wanted to hear. Especially out here in the middle of Nowhere, New Mexico on a weekend! Any other suggestions to get this set up working? BTW, I have two versions of the FMS software, the one that came with the package - Version 2 Alpha 8.3 and one I downloaded - Beta 7.0. Come on buddy, bail me out here! Or do you think I should just start flying with no SIM experience. As some wise one on M*A*S*H once said, just pull down my pants, and slide on the ice!

You guys have said there are no dumb questions; I hope that is true of mistakes and assumptions too. I am reading Steve’s response and I said to myself, self I said “DAH! Batteries in the TX, I thought everything I read said you didn’t need the batteries to operate the SIM.” So I convinced myself to try it and guess what, through the joystick interface, I am able to SIM now. So Steve, either wittingly or unwittingly, you gave me the answer. I will give you wittingly, oh wise one! But I warn you, the questions are only going to get harder from now on, like what does this “O” “N” button do; and when you set the heli on the ground, which end is up, the rotors or the skids. Pulling my pants up now – that ice is cold!

You are at least the 3rd person to suddenly realize it must be on to work lol. You can save a lot of battery juice by removing the module/crystal.

And I do that how???

As best I remember the newer esky TX have a block with the crystal in it you can pull out and reinsert before flying...

This will keep it from actually transmitting while sim'n

Little rectangular plug thingy (think thats the technical term) on the lower left top of the TX. I pulled that out so I think I got it! Thanks again Steve. You da professor!
