Hi All :)
The very first kit a beginner makes is a kind of landmark, it is the natural progression from RTF (ready to fly) to ARTF (almost ready to fly) and then the ultimate kit form.
The making of the kit is the culmination of hours of effort, which in my opinion can be made to look untidy by the wiring.
I use braiding which comes with matching heat shrink sleeving and tie-wraps this in my opinion gives a professional finish to the kit as well as protecting the wiring.
So if you are starting your very first kit put braiding on your list and when you show off your heli I guarantee everyone will admire your work.

Hi Boker,
Where do you get the braiding from?

Hi Glen :) At first we only found it on ebay but at the club on Sunday a member bought it from Maplins.
It is computer sleeving.
I don't know if you have Maplins in the States but if not you could find it in an electronics shop because thats what Maplins bacically is.
Here is a link to show you what it is like http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criteria=COMPUTER%20BRAIDING&menu=2&WorldSearch=Y&doy=19m9&ShowPics=true&Stock=28&MinPrice=0&MaxPrice=9999&SD=true
I would like to use the blue as I think it would look really good 8)
Sorry about the link being weird but I wanted it to go to the exact add.
Sue
I just thought the blue would look great on your LongRanger :D :D

Hi Sue,
Thanks, I'll see what I can find, we have plenty of electronics stores here in Australia ( I'll see if I can find blue!)

Sue, I'd love your neat and tidy wiring.

I'm too lazy to tidy the wiring. So just rolled them up and use those transparent wire wrap. Is that untidy or what?

That type of sleeving is Ok but it is best to leave a small loop of wire coming out of the sleeving before the servo or Rx etc, it stops the vibrations from fracturing the cable or being directed into the servo, gyro or Rx etc.

Can I also just say that on the T-Rex 600 Align have said the ESC must be mounted only with double sided foam tape and not with cable ties to the chassis.

They have told us that the vibrations are making the ESC fail and they won't cover them under warranty :(

This should be note on all of our radio gear, not just ESC's, that's why we use the rubber mountings on or servos !!

Thanks, Martin for the helpful tips. I vaguely remember someone once told me about vibration issues on the Rx, but didn't mention for the ESC. Is it peculiar for the Trex 600 only? For my 450SE, I use velcro instead of double-sided foam tape to hold the Rx down, without cable ties. Will it hold, given that I am only doing hovering and slow and leisurely FF for the time being?

Hi, I have only read about the TR600 esc but if we want longer life out of our gear it is worth the little time it takes to save the electronics and a cash !!

Velcro is almost as good as rubber bands to hold things down, with nice foam under the rx/esc/bec against the chassis etc, also velcro lasts longer. Cable ties are just too hard thus the foam just can't do it's job !!

Engine powered helis are bad for vibrations, think of that piston moving at 18,000 rpm !!, but even the little ones hovering have it too !!

On all the smaller helis I too like velcro. I often use rubber bands to help secure. If the velcro starts to peel apart (like when you are removing the part) the rubber bands tend to stick it back together. I stick 300g emoli packs to the right cheek of my corona this way. I've never had one come loose and it's easy on and off. Works good but looks pretty bad. Just so much more convient than straps. The same rubber bands that help attach the battery pack also holds the esc on the left cheek.

My micros have the packs attached with velcro and rubber bands works great.
