Very specific question here since I'm annoying everyone with endless questions in my search for knowledge :p
I notivce Esky honey bees have a belt-driven tail rotar version... it says the is better for lessening vibration & noise and having another motor to burnout I think it said somewhere...
Is a belt driven tail version really better? Would you notice improvement in flight stability? Are those above mentioned claims true or is it just "marketing" fluff? :confused:
(I haven't noticed much mentiion of this for other manufacturers tho I have been Esky focused.)

Definitely true.
On the B400 (and I assume others) the belt locks in the rpm of the tail rotor to the main rotor. It is a ratio of 5:1 so for every 1 rotation of the main blades, the tail blades rotate 5 times. This means that there is alway plenty of rpm in the tail for quicker, more authoritative response.
It is also the same difference between FP and CP. With a separate motor for the tail rotor, it runs fixed pitch tail blades. So the rpms have to speed up or slow down before any thrust is changed. With a belt driven tail rotor (or other mechanical link to main rotor like shaft, etc.) the rpms are always constant and pitch is changed in the blades for instant thrust changes.

After flying both motor and belt tails, I will tell you belt tails win hands down. I properly set up belted tail will always have more authority than a motor tail.
BUT, 2 of my favorite helis have motor tails. I just have to remember that sometimes I can overpower that tail motor and lose authority. Also, I can tell when the tail motor is wearing out. For the little fp machines, motor tail is fine. When you get into cp's, go with a belted tail.

After killing more tail motors than I can count, I finally gave up on them and went back to belt driven tails.
I don't miss tail motors at all, and won't be going back there any time soon.
As ranger mentioned, a belt tail will give you much more tail authority and control, no contest.
When you switch from a motor driven tail to a belt driven tail, you instantly become a better pilot, as you're no longer focusing on constantly keeping the tail in line.
I have two belt-driven tail heli's and one Blade CP Pro with motor driven tail. After I put a second motor on the tail I had all the yaw control I need at my present level of ability and the motors run cooler and last longer.
So ... both systems can be made to work. I like the simplicity, lightness, and ease of operation of the Blade.
