View Full Version : main blade adjustment advice required
Please can someone be so kind as to either post a link or photo as to which control arm/s to adjust to get the tracking correct or give the control rod part numbers from the x-400 manual .
As the pitch rods are solid I'm not sure which is the correct way to do this.
Thanks
Alistair

adwb,
EHBG has general instructions on how to track blades http://www.swashplate.co.uk/ehbg-v16/ch12s21.html For X400, you need to adjust the long the mixing arm rod (the long one).
thanks ,

From the start you need to mark the tip of one blade, say in red. After a short hover you will see what one is the lower of the two blades, marked or unmarked.
Now take the lower blade, if it is a lot out make the link that connects direct to the blade holder shorter by one turn. Try a test hover again.
To make small adjustments to bring up the lower blade make the long link that runs from the swash to the mixing arm 4012-020 (the long link on the other end of the arm that the small links attaches to, that we use for big adjustments) longer !!
So to recap, the mixing arm 4112-020 has two links, long and short.
Making the short link shorter will give lots more pitch, making the long link longer will give little more pitch.
Hard to put all this into words but I hope this helps you, lets us know if ithis worked for you !!

Actualy the stock X400 only has the "long links" adjustable From the upper swash. The link from the mixing arms to the grips are solid "dog bones".
I've made an adjustable set of pitch rods but never have a reason to use them. They are mounted on one of my x400s, I don't recall wether it made the initial setup easier or not.

Thanks Steve, I have had lots of helis but not a X400 so I was working from the manual on the web !!
Yes some do make that very short link fixed, no peoblem, just move the longer one more BUT make sure these two long links, on each side, are the same lenght if the tracking is way out !!
With the pitch gauge try to get both blades the same, balance the blades and if it is a good quality heli the tracking will be very close.
I do remember having problems with the plastic blades that came with the T Rex 450 XL, once I change to good quality carbon blades it was easy to track.
