View Full Version : needing some help with advice on finding fly away lama v4

I just lost my lama yesterday. Newbie. stupid, impatient. Just wanted to get it up outside and the wind picked up immediatly after ascent to about 7 feet. Sticks seemed dead... the bird just kept going up. Was just a dot when i finally started to run to where i thought it might crash, looked up once more and couldnt lock onto it. I looked thru the woods here it was most likely to come down for hours and hours. Nothing. Hours on the net and forums... no technol seems available for tracing the signal from the tx to the rx.... or am i not looking for it with the right terminology? By now i am sure the rx battery is dead. I cant stop obsessing. It was my first heli and i spent a fat 136 bucks to lose it immediately. I know you guys have that much in shipping custom parts for more expensive birds.... but this was to be my learner bird. I am so bummed. I even had a buddy come look with me for several hours. I now know that there are alot of devices out there to help locate flyaways... the LOC8TOR? seems to be the best idea i have seen. It is really small and can hear it for a couple hundred feet it sounds like. Even has a screen on the hand held end that points in the direction of the lost item. Sounds like a good way to spend a few buck and save hrs searching. Somethind is better than nothin... right? Live, spend and learn is my new motto.

My advice to all newbies with birds right out of the box is this....Ready to fly really means READY TO FLY AWAY. Practice indoors till you really can controll the bird and dont fly on windy days even if you think you have it all figured out. You will be disappointed. Buy a gizmo, tracking device of some sort. Spend a few bucks and help yourself by saving a big sad face and hours lost searching for your investment and kicking yourself in the head. My wife is so very kind and loving, io had to ask her to tell me i was stupid. Even then she didn't want to. I do love her and her ability to tolerate me. GUYS, love the one your with, especially if she loves you back.

Any help or advice greatly appreciated. If any one is interested in developing some new tech to find and recover lost r/c planes and heli's i would be glad to help in any way i can. Cant imagine why no one hasn't came up with this any way?!!!!!! There is a way to track MHz, measure it and there has to be a way to reverse the search... Bug sweepers find the Tx, so there has to be a way to locate the Rx right? Any one know anyone in the military that has skill in the communications end of things? I bet the military has sattelites that can reprogram the bird to transform into a chainsaw and cut it self free from the tree it is stuck in and then into a 3 legged walking instrument and back to a heli and fly right back to your house. What you wanna bet?

Any how, ya'll be good and enjoy your birds, I will try to learn and hope to have some useful knowledge to share some day. Sites like this give goons like me hope. Best of luck and clear skies to all that prefere em.

I know the feeling man. I once lost a plank in a snake and spider infested corn field for about 3 weeks in one afternoon (seemed like 3weeks but was only a couple hours). It was about 105F and no wind moved in the tall corn. Only way I found it was by moving the controls and listening for the servos while walking around in the corn. It had pretty much landed on the corn and never made it to the ground. I had 2 buddies out looking with me also.

After that I put a switch to get made at full deflection of a convient servo connected to a battery and a piezo. Naturally after doing that I never managed to loose one again to the extent I needed it. usually it was that monokote bag of debris laying in the corn field and easy to find.

DANG! That really bites! I don't have any advice for you, just a lot of sympathy. I really hope this tuns out for you and I'll look forward to your updates on how it all works out. I myself am flying my SIM right now before I fly my first heli, which happens by chance to also be a Lama v4. I'll be sure to keep an eye on her and probably will keep her indoors. At least I can see to the ceiling if she takes off out of control. Good luck man!

A sympathizer, am i too. I know (now) what to do, go buy a new heli for the nice Tx i have here on the table, fresh out of the box and order me one of those gadgets to help my fool self find it the next time i go commando.

As far as using the Tx to get some audible reaction from the downed bird.... absolutly no avail. Tried and tried... i even considered throwing the trim switch full up and hoping to see smoke. At the very least i would have found something i could fix right? Did i mention depressed? Man, i could have burnt thru hundreds of charged batteries by now and could really be a better pilot by now and also have entertained my self a bit, but instead, again today, i hunted thru the toils and snares after church and even said a prayer and admitted that i would need help to get passed the loss and to move on!!! I will have to wait a bit to buy another chopper, really was kinda liking the lama 4.... any one know where to get just the bird... since i have everything else and still fresh out of the box? The hobby store here in town wants 100.00 for just the bird. Any ideas? Again, thanks a bunch and am looking forward to learning the site, the terms, the hobby and the fun it can be. I promise to give full crash reports as so many have already!!!!! Those too, i even look forward to. Everyone likes a good crash and burn story, might that be my first true offering to the site? Best of luck!! Again, thanks, and clear blue skies to you, if thats how you preferre em.

I don't know of any place you can get just the heli. It seems that everyone is selling the kit with the TX, extra blades, etc. If you can't find your heli, I would suggest you wait until you can buy the kit again. Check out the threads in this forum regarding online hobby shops. I used one from Hong Kong, but shipping is kind of high. There are domestic sources, but the cost of the product is a little higher but shipping is lower. You are probably going to be looking at around $100 to replace your heli. If you do find yours, you should be able to order parts domestically to fix her for less. You may see if one of the domestic suppliers might be able to order just the heli for you. Good luck again and hang in there. Keep praying and keep looking for your lost bird.

It's got to be there..... somewhere......

Probably up in a tree that you can't see from the ground. Daily wind may move it closer to the ground to find. Wonder if any in your area has a bird/plane with camera in for aerial search and rescue.

Sorry to hear dude. My dad lost his CX/2 and found it on the roof of the shopping mall a mile away. (was not visible from ground, hint)

I mean, these coaxials fly by themselves. They stay upright. So wind could take and put anywhere.

mtpenguin, do you think your buddies over at heliproz.com could help this guy out on getting just the heli rather than the whole kit? baronsroofing, you might post a request on the for sale thread. Somebody who has upgraded to a FP or CP might have one they don't fly anymore.

I feel for you ..
I tried flying my CX2 outside and a tiny ltle wind took it far and away. could get it to come back against the wind. I wasn't that scared of losing my bird but was scared about hitting somebody when and if it came down! pfff.. I was lucky, nobody got hit by a falling heli and i found mine (easy: red canopy in a green patch a grass) ..

I hoop you find it!
Good luck!

They don't carry the V4 and said that it isn't available as a heli only kit. The radio that comes with it isn't of any real value.

Sorry.

Lol, this cracks me up. I'm laughing with you, not at you! Sorry, I do feel for you! It just reminds me of the first glider I ever built. My dad insisted he knew what he was doing and wanted to test it before I crashed it. He took off, got about 15 feet up and messed up his controls, did a strait nose dive right into the ground.

He bought me a new glider and radio to make up for it. I built the new one, had a couple successful flights and he wanted to try again. This time he didn't crash, he just kept going further and further until we couldn't see it. No clue where it ever went, lol. I got a whole new plane out of the ordeal and never let my dad fly again!

He probably figured if he tried to land that he would crash, so he didn't land. At least you got a new glider out of it.
lol : lol : lol : lol : lol : lol
I almost lost my CX2 in an updraft when I first tried to fly it outside, not knowing that even a little wind could take it anywhere. When I saw it starting to climb higher and higher I shut down the throttle all the way. Eventually the wind stopped when the CX2 was about 40-50 ft in the air and came crashing down. I was able to bring up the throttle a lit before it hit the ground. Demolished the landing gear, and broke all blades, but that was it...lucky!

man, you guys are are alright, ya know. I am glad i took the time to join the site and want to learn the hobby better so that i too can be helpful to someone some day. Thanks you all. It was hard to lose the bird so soon, but i have searched and no luck. I even suited up in coveralls and trecked thru some seriously thick briars and brambles, ( Battle of New Orleans ... ha)a work out i tell you. They were 7 and 8 feet high in some places. Got some stickers in the face too. Ouch. I figure more than 30 hours searching in rough cover.... she is gone. Today is my b. day however. 31. wow, i made it. Paula Abdule shares this day with me. I feel so lucky. Any how. Fellas, this ol country boy appreciates the kind words and advice. I will certainly keep coming to the site. And will work on a tracking system for lost birds if time allows. I think this is tech that's out there.... maybe just not intended for such a purpose. And if not, maybe i can invent a gadget that'll find these lil lost birds. Get rich and really enjoy r/c. Best to you and yours, and again, thanks for the support. If any ones does find a site for purchase of just a bird, let me know, but i intend to buy a new one when my hobby guy gets some in.... poss today. Never quit, never give in. Fight till the fight is gone.

Hope they come in soon.

Just another thought. Maybe it isn't there to be found. Maybe it *was* found already. Tried any bribing of the neighborhood kids? Reward poster? No sense in searching for it yourself, when you can get the neighborhood kids to do it for you. Hell, if it is $100 to replace, I would think a $50 reward could go a long way.

I like the way ya'll think. I'm sure it's out there... no one but me is crazy enough to go into those briars. I had a fleeting thought of a reward but didnt follow thru. Would be a great way to get er found tho. I'd just hate for any one to get hurt back in there in the woods. there is one other place i havn't really looked. There's a house near us that is fenced full around. The lady welcomed me to look in the woods where i thought it went but she acted like she didn't want me around her house. Only guess why she doesn't like people around the house.... she probally has some hobbies of her own.....?????/
Any how, i broke down and went to buy a new bird. I got another Esky Lama V4. I really like the thing and had 2 batteries 4 it ne way. I flew several batteries thru it today... had agreat time and am glad i was flying and not searching. I think i will get the hang of it with a couple more flights. All these are indoors ofcourse. i made some room in my work shop. It serves the purpose. I cant wait to get it out on a NICE Day, like with no wind what so ever. On the way home i even held my hand on the box as to keep it from blowing out the window. Sad eh? But she made it home with me. And i intend to fly after work tomorrow. I really do appreciate the replys and can see already that i picked a good forum with some good guys. This will be a great past time for me. I'm glad i got around to buying one. You can expect full details on the crash reports. Have a few minor ones already. Nothing saucy enough to tell about yet. Lost a few blades.... Nothing tragic yet. I do intend to find out if the lil bird will fly inverted and upside down. I have dial up so up and down loading takes ages. But if i can manage i will find a way to get you all some awsome vid of me and the war eagle making kibbles and bits. Remember... it's not really yours until you break it... Then there's no hope of a refund.

Funny how Wal-Mart will take back anything ain't it? I seen a lady return 12 DVDs and a DVD burner one day. My wife once bought some meat and it went bad in like 2 days.... she took it back.... and they gave her the money for it.

You all will have to enlighten me on all this savvy computer stuff to so i can share "proper like" with every one on the site. i DON'T INTEND DO BE ONE OF THOSE GUYS WHO JUST VISITS WHEN HE'S BROKEN SOMETHING HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO FIX. oPPS. hIT CAPPS ON ACCIDENT.... I DIDNT MEAN TO YELL ha! I want to be an asset as you guys have showed me, it is nice to have people out there, ya know?

Ya'll be good, wish me luck and will post again soon. Thanks again.

Hey, thanks Steve, it does feel good to wake up and be the owner of a safely (weighted down) bird, in my garage, a string tied to it and a cinder block, my name on it in sereral places, and the garage door locked. I am willing to crash and burn... but not go hunt thru those briars again. I look like i must have tried to rape a cat or something. I see the looks on peoples faces when i pass by, it's funny.... it's almost like they are about to call ASPCA on me!!!! One little nugget i left out about the search... I have a dog, long story, lost at puppy age in front of a store, busy hiway, 4 months old i guess. Wife had to take him in. Was a good pup for a long while... Then we moved here, a couple miles down the road. Silly beast goes off into the woods behind our place, gets after some chickens and gets shot in the arse with birdshot from about 30 feet, Sweet pattern on the the 20 GA i must say. He comes home, wanders franticly around the inside of my shop... stopping, licking, bleeding and certainly scared to death. Eventually he makes his way into view and my wife says he's been in a dog fight.... i come down from the roof where i was working and see he's a mess. I send her to the vet with him, and follow the blood trail about 1/2 mile thru the woods. Find the fella that shot him, turns out, and made a new friend actually. He had a black collar on and the guy couldnt see it for the dog also being black.... Thought he was a stray and capped him good. Was very apologetic. Dog is now fine, but i named him, "Puppy shot in tail." Like Peter cotton tail. Being close to easter i had to make up a song about him.... Here it is...

Here comes puppy shot in tail, Hurtin, limpin, stings like hell,
Singin chicken chasin songs, i'll bet he's glad them nuts were gone.

The shot was flom behind and a bit from his right side. His entire outter thigh was peppered badly, the inner thigh of opposite leg was worse cause the skin was so much more tender, nicked a major artery, if he hadn't been nutered a few months back, the guy would have saved me some nuter money... his "Buddies" would have be peppered too. No doubt. I used to get annoyed by the dog. He was a big dope. Sweet enough, just cowardly, and that's ok i realize now. He's good with my boy, that's 4 in a couple months, and that's all i could ask for really. But the relavent point to choppers is this. I thought he was a mut. I was certain he was a mix between PitBull and has spotted feet with white spots, so i figured Bird Dog. Not a chance. He was with me in the woods and briars. Think he found my bird? Not a chance.... He's Pit/ chicken dog i guess. He stuck to my side like a cocklebur thru them woods. I was really proud that he was that kind of dog. We never had been in the woods together. When he sensed i was in distress, being tangled in briars, he would immediately come running to me and make sure i was ok. I kinda love the ol mut a bit now. So i guess some good came from all of the bad. I know that was a long story and not really funny, but you know it's not always the objective that makes the moral of the story sometimes it's the side notes. I lost one love and found another. He's a good ol boy and i am glad we have kept him. Now just to teach him to be a chopper finding hound. At one point in the woods i figured he would find it befor i did, take it to the house and chew it up real ggod and i would have to take him back down the hill to the fella with the 20 gauge and let him have another go at him for getting after my bird. Guess he didn't want to find that chopper. He might be hard to train.

Good luck today guys, hope it's one of your best.

Coaxials can't fly inverted. Or and 'fixed pitch' bird. If the blades have a 'fixed' pitch, they can't produce negative lift.

Even a stall turn is problematic. The only way to NOT have the blades produce lift is to stop them, which can never be good on a heli....

LOL

Congrats on the replacement.

Speaking of dogs, maybe get one of those 'invisible' fences with a shock collar, and fit the electronics to you bird. That way, when if flies beyond the fence, the collar will shock the electronics, like an EMP, and ground it.

LOL

B-)

P.S. There is a video on youtube of a guy who reversed the blades on his CX/2 to make it fly inverted full time.

HeHee Heli finding dog? If it's anything like the worthless beast I have you'd have to fly with a porkchop in the canopy for any chance of her finding it. Wait a dead bird would be better. She's always good at finding one of them.

I'd never have to worry about her chaising chickens as she is so timid she'd be running from them. Not a dang bit of the old dog we had to put down in dec. The old girl tried to teach her but only house training stuck.

Man, i'm glad you told me that lama's cant fly upside down. That was certainly going to be my first "attempted" stunt after i got the simple stuff figured out. Man. Those would be some expensive trials and errors eh? You could have just kept it quiet and waited for the crash reports.... but then again.... There are other lama owners that will need some parts too... not fair of me to buy every last one of them they've made right? Ge whiz. I will have to get the feeling of this lil bird and maybe some day graduate to another more expensive crash test dummy. I think i will name my lama here in a few days. I am taking suggestions. Thinking on the lines of UGLY BETTY, SUPER TRAMPLED, ESCAPED GOAT, SPACE caDEBT,
OH CRAP, MISS-STRESS, so on. Suggestions welcome. I have a good wife and find no grounds to treat her with disdain.... so my poor bird will probally take up the slack for my bad days.... Just kiddin guys. I wont beat my heli up on purpose. I do intend to push the envelope tho. I am 100% in all i do. Hence my searching in the woods. I have no idea what some people call "enough's-enough." This wil be fun, i am sure of it.

I forgot to post on the pet fence issue. That's a great idea. Seriously tho. But instead of putting the shocker on the bird i will just put it in my pocket... when the bird lands out of the yard, i will have to go and get it, right? You follow me? Talk about learning thru consequences!!!! EEEEEEE-OOOOWWWW!! No joke here.... tru story.... I was roofing for some folks in ILL a few years back, they put in opne of those fences for their labs, the male was so big and strong he would run right thru the force field and couldnt come back. The salesman that sold them the fence came out and witnessed this and suggested that they put the shocker on his NADS. So they had a special harness made.... true.... and placed the little device on his "Buddies." Immediately, the poor dog ran the the fence. BANG!!!!!! The guy that owned the dog said he was immediately stopped dead in his tracks.... in the force field.... stayed there for several seconds, skwallin, and bitin, gnashin around and looked rather possessed. The poor critter had no idea what to do i guess. The owner went to get the dog and drag him back away from the forcefield and the dog bit him..... well wouldn't you? They asked me to hold the shocker thing and put my hand across the forcefield. I was hesitant... but i figured atleast it wasnt on my buddies.... so i did it. Holy mother of unborn children! I cussed that guy like a sailor. That zinged me so good that i threw the collar about 100 feet.... just reflex.... I could never put that on my dogs buddies. What kind of guy would be so cruel? I nearly sheet me paints, imagine what the scroat shock would do? Christ!!!

Withh that shocker in my pocket i am sure to be an awsome pilot in no time, ya think?

Huevos?.....My uncle tom calls me "mad money" cause i hate my money he says... i must be mad at my money he says. Told me i could give my money to him to torture. It would be torture sitting for the rest of it's life in the back pocket of that old man. He's so tight when he puts a dollar in his pocket it turns into a diamond. I bet the girls would love him at the dancing bars.... if he would just go once. I will have to tell him the new term "huevos" he will use it i'm sure. I admire your patience. I flew a sim for a few minutes. It was cool but i couldnt get any depth perception so i had to really fly to see what it was like. Much more funner than the sim.... but more expensive to learn on too. I already have spent 20 bucks on blades alone. Wont be long till i need a new canopy. The saddle the stabilizer sits in seems to be getting looser. Causae it flys out really easy now.... but i have popped it out in dozens of crashes already... so i guess it is getting worn from all the stapping in and out. Still no major crashes.... mostly low impact stuff. blade killers i call it. I can stop the bird pretty fast now and avoid the major impact accidents. Once in a while i pull off a really good SAVE and get the bird to come back away from the impact and it stays in the air. It's one of those things you can only learn from trial and error i think. Put it this way.... i am thinking about buying a cordless screw driver to make blade changes faster!!!!!! Will ahve to go easy on the forward button so not to strip the holder out, know?

I have also learned that sittin the TX down is a good idea when the battery is in the bird and LIVE. I have accidently moved the throttle up to full hilt a couple times by holding in between my legs while adjusting the bird and picking up broken parts.... a neck sling might be a good idea... or just setting it down since you cant turn the TX off while the bird is LIVE. HAve done that too. That can hurt if the TX is off when you plug juice to the bird. Sometimes it will go berzerk and chop you up good. EEEEEEEEE OWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

Be patient and save your parts reciepts in a file labled TUITION. Cause after all.... that's how you learn what not to do!!!! HA!!! Good luck. and thanks again.

Do they sell pork chop flavored cooking spray? I have a habit of loosing the stabilizer bar.... would a pokchop be too heavy to tie onto it? I think flavored cooking spray, say, steak, or bacon flavored might get the dog inclined to finding it for me. I'm suprised the dog knows where to find his food bowl. Poor beast, he's a sweet dog. I do love him, tho it has taken me a while to warm up to him. He's been a great co pilot. Otherwise useless, critter cant guard a food dish. One day i heard a bizarre sound from around the corner.... I couldnt get a grip on what it was and it began to bug me so i got up to go look. Around the corner i find my female cat, hind leg straight up in the air, cleaning her self and there was this profoundly loud licking noise.... Like SSSSSLLLIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKOOOOOOOOOPP. I stood in awe of the cat and it's devotion to cleanliness but then noticed around the other corner my dog was also caught up in the moment, also cleaning himself..... was the dog making the noise.... i just seen the cat first. Was one of those things that makes you laugh silently inside ya know? Shared the story with my wife.... now when she says she's hopping in the shower sometimes i make the SSSSSSSLLLLLLLLIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKOOOOOOOOOp p noise for her and she always laughs. They say making your partner laugh gets harder as years go by. true. But i give it my best every day. Sometimes i have to be really silly to get a reaction out of her. Then i really nail it down sometimes and get her laughing good. I was cutting a tree up with a chainsaw one day. there were knots on the trunk that looked to be hemmoroids. About 10 inches wide and rounded kind of, and bulbous shaped, bark on them and all. So while she wasn't looking i turned around and held it up to my butt and hollered HONEYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!HEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!! When she looked i said these hemmoroids are killing me. I though she would certainly pee her pants right there in the car. I think the whole bent ALL the way over looking at her from between my knees is what really made the moment. Mind you, i just turned 31....Acting like a 10 yr old at this age can be really fun sometimes. Keep em laughing at you if they dont want to laugh with you.

Morning. I have a bit of work to do today befor i can go play, but i have a feeling the play will not last as long as the work. It's good to know that my local hobby shop is open 7 days a week. Hope to have some good news to tell about later. I intend to practice a bit more and try to perfect my landings a bit. Seem to be doing well thus far. I do think my bird needs some adjustment tho. It seem to want to rotate to the left even tho i have that trim maxed all the way over to counter-act it. Can blade balance or blade adjustment help with this or do i need to tweek the servo/gyro? I have not tried anything further than my trim control. I'm hesitant to work on the bird so soon. Wanted to get some flight time in before i put a screwdriver to her. I promise not to use my cordless 18 volt RIDGID Drill for the adjustments... But am clueless on exactly what to adjust. ANy one had this operation performed already? Sounds like out-patient surgery for most people.... but remember.... i am a carpenter/ roofer, and my surgical skill ends at my ability to dislodge splinters and pnumatic fasteners from my flesh with rusty old wire pliars. Just so ya'll know... i have already had nearly a pound worth of steel shot into my body over the past 18 or so years by nail guns. I had each of the nails until i moved a couple years back and lost all of them. Was quite a collection. Now i hunt arrowheads in my free time. Dont ever want to have to full one of them out of me... Gwhiz. Ya'll have a great saturday. Hope your flights are long and inexpensive. I can only hope that i can afford what ever it is that i break today. HAve fun... i'm gonna go roof some more on my house. Maybe from up there i can see the lost bird. Or at least be reminded of why not to fly on windy days.

I like "2nd time found" which brings to mind "Deuce"
Got anything with that in it? Deuces wild is a bit cliche. How bout "2timer"... wife will get a kick outta that one eh?

I don't have the Lama, but I do have the CX2. You say the bird is yawing to the left, then it would be a motor differential problem. On the CX2 that would be located on the 3:1 unit, as for the Lama, it might be on the ESC. What is happening is that the upperblade (spinning clockwise) creates torque to cause the heli to yaw left...newtons law. The lower blades are supposed to conteract that torque and create opposite torque. With both blades, torque is balanced out right keeping the tail steady. If the Upper blade is spinning faster then the lower blade, then it will yaw left. If trims are maxxed, on the ESC are small plastic screws that you turn to give more rpm to the lower rotor to balance out the torque again. Since I don't have the instructions for the lama, I don't know exactly where it is at. Hope this helps, and I love the stories. Keep them coming.lol

Firadiz, thanks for the explanation. I thought it had something to do with the counter rotation. I just hate to tweak the thing the wrong way or not the right thing. Have you had to tweek your CX? I havn't seen a CX yet. Is it about the same size as a lama? My lama is about 14 or so inches long. Thos e really big heli's are so daggone awesome. I really want to get one... dont worry, i cant afford one and you all and the rest of the world can rest easy.. If i got one of those i would be in jail for sure. Nasa seem to want to be the only game in town.... Dont think they'd appreciate the competition with the whole Mars rover deal....Might not bode too well with them landing my big heli on the red planet after they spent all that money on rocket fuel and research. I can see the newspaper headlines now....

Alabama, back woods, R/C helicopter pilot shows up NASA with $1,000.00 toy helicopter. Charges being filed for destruction of Government property, damage to Mars Rover, defacing of innocent planet and stellar littering. NASA estimates clean up operation could cost billions and take several centuries. Defendant is being held, with out bond, at Sgt. Bubba Whitetail-Stalker's Wood shed in Styxvill, Al awaiting trial.

I have to buy some new parts any way, so maybe i will take the bird in to the hobby shop and have them show me where to go tweekin. They should help right? I did afterall buy not one, but two heli's from them... not to mention the bundle i spent on blades and batteries. I should start my own hobby shop.... would save a bundle on parts eh? I even thought of buying an injection molder to make my own blades. I did a little tool and die work back some years ago... I figure if i bought a cnc macine to make the dies and all that i'd need to make blades i would have made my money back in a couple days the way i am going thru blades!!!!!!!! The mark up on those blades has to be huge. I know for a fact that the molder that spits those blades out has to make a few dozen at a time. The injection process that makes plastic parts like these takes just a few seconds. At 3.00 a pr. i know they are making a killin on them. I figure if i make my own blades i could use my bird to do all my weed eating and even some light tree trimming after i get really good with the controlls. Wouldnt ya'll love to see some vid of that?!!!!!! You know i'd be just the guy to do it!!!!!!!! HA! With the right insurance... i just might get into doing hair cuts.... Sick aint I? Not every one want to be bald like me. What was i thinkin? No hair cuts.

Didnt get to fly yesterday. Had to work plumb til dark. I was bushed from being up on that roof all day. Was pretty windy too. That always takes a toll on you. Seems that more of your energy is spent bracing yourself against the wind than doing the actual work. If i had a sheet of ply wood up there yesterday, i could have glided around the yard for hours without coming down. I think the winds were around 30 MPH at times. Sure puts loose shingles in the wind in a hurry. If one of those gets you just right, it'll let ya know about it. I had em hit me in the face before. Sucks. Just when you least expect it one picks up and slapps you right in the kisser. Tick a guy off right quick. The only thing worse than that is these daggone red wasps. Those are of the devil. They have evil little minds. Would love to sick my heli on them little beasties. Any one know what the natural predator of the red wasp is? Please let me know. I am gonna buy a hundred of them.

Well, i gotta go, hope to fly a bit today. Hope ya'll have a great Easter and lots of family to spend it with.

Do you know why the Easter Bunny hides his eggs? Doesn't want anyone to know he's been mating with chickens. Sorry, only Easter joke i knew. AHve a good one. Thanks again. MIke

Glad to oblidge mtpenguin.

I have not flown in a few days... i am getting antsy.

i hope Easter was good to everyone as it was to me. I am fat as a sow after a bad dinner and a family fued at thankgiving, Crap, there aint no way a lil fella like me should be able to eat like that. I must have ate 3 plates, of everything. I got my choch. fix for the year in about 10 minutes. I have ate every shape of easter bunny and egg that i could get my fingers into. Man i tell you what, those daggone recees peanutbutter eggs should come in 5 gallon containers with a spoon attached to the lid. I got a pile of wrappers that looks like a volcano. Ya'll have fun, i'll get back to it once i can bend over my big ol belly to sit my chopper down.

I think my hobby shop is gonna lose a little bit of my business. That's cheap for blades eh? I know hob shops gotta make money too, but i can keep a little of it in my own pocket. . That saves me about 2.16 a pair. About 21.60 over 10 pair. Cool!! Appreciate that, man. Now i just have to figure out how to use EBAY!!!!

Really cut the breeze yesterday.... man, it's like it just came to me all of a suddden.... the chopper actually listens to me for a change!!!!! Once i tweek the counter rotation issue she should fly pretty well. Ther's alot of tail vibe going on now too. i will have to figure that out next. I think maybe the blades need tweeking like it says on the inst. book. That or my stabilizer bar has just been flailed around the garage too many times at the speed of light. I actually flung it off in mid flight yesterday. I gave it some aggressive input from the TX, and with out hitting anything, just out of the blue the stabilizer bar goes whirrling thru the shop. Bird crashed ofcourse.... but no damage. Go figure. Any thoughts on that? Maybe the holder is worn out?

I seem to have stolen an unused thread in Beginner needs help forum. I have been able to keep up with it a bit better. My lama went down and i am thinking of flying it (after repairs) a while and moving to a bigger bird. that thread is where i am getting alot of advice on those issues.... for those who would like to follow up with me over there....c'mon over.... i really liked all the discussion and help form you all, would just like to consolidate... if you all dont mind subscribing to this new thread. I am trying to lessen my usless banter and be a good stweard of the site. I got really carried away before... there are threads for that too i suppose i should use them for those bantering moments i get. Thanks to all that would join me there.
