Ozzy...A nice piece of gamesmanship! I am sure a contest like that would (hem hem) Fly up here in Canada . It would depend of course of the qualifications of the JUDGES . For example did the judges bring more errr..lubrication to the contest than needed? if so why won't they share with the contestants?.... The PRIZE...must be another freekin...(yawn) heli....or a keg of BEER!!!! :P
Nice thoughts on a course type fun contest...maybe just fixed pitched and MICRO in two classes for the beginners courses and so on thru the sizes for the more advanced...Sleepster... 8)

Sleepster, if you won a keg of beer, drank it and then went out flying you would need a new freekin heli so maybe the prize should be a keg of beer and a heli
Maybe we can get medtech to donate some of his beer he has more than any man needs, well maybe NOT more than any man needs but he sure has a lot.

Drunk judges? Nope, I hate any drinking of alcahol at any event, expecially motorised ones. After wards, OK, but never during. And judges should only have the simplest of tasks to judge on- did the heli touch down, was it pointed in the correct direction and did it fly the route correctly?
Other than that, it means you need trained people to run an event. With the simplistic judging it can be like R/C cars, you do your event and then have to be a judge for the next person, and/or get some one from the crowd/visitor/partner in to help.
As always, getting judges will always be the issue.
I agree on the fixed pitch rotor, coaxial helis being teh D level helis ( I dont like them to be called 'grades' , levels has a better feel to it.)
