Since we have quite a few members showing up at our near weekly funfly, training, and gabfest I'd like to make a place for all of us (and anyone else) to post anything about the weekends at Debbie's.
Everyone feel free to post. After all the fun shouldn't have to stop because the weekend is over.
I'll post some history since we've been going on pretty much every weekend through the marvelous winter we've been having. I have to apologize since this idea just came to me and I've been remiss on doing a proper job and getting member pictures. All I can say is I've had a blast meeting and flying with the whole crowd.
A lot has happened since this thread (http://www.rchelicoptertown.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2630) but it has pretty much been the same all winter long.
Don traded his A119
http://www.rchelicoptertown.com/forum/photoplog/file.php?n=590&w=o
For Richard's .90 sized Huey.
http://www.rchelicoptertown.com/forum/photoplog/file.php?n=588&w=o
During the winter Joe bought the A119 from Richard and on it's 1st flight had a Berg 7 die in mid air. It went in HARD and is currently under extensive repair. Don had several great flights with the Huey (many accompanied by "Flight of the Valkyrie" some elbow was playing on his PDA) until a radio hit slammed it into the ground. It was given to Ernie who is plying fiberglass to it as we speak. It had Miniture Aircraft mechanics and Ernie is a minair kinda guy. I suspect we'll see it again (hopefully more often than we see Ernie's Airwolf). Note to self; never trade with Don make a deal to buy his for $1 if he'll buy yours for 1$ but never trade.
Nearly every weekend we can be expected to see Don ( don_m8856 (http://www.rchelicoptertown.com/forum/member.php?u=2538) ) cruising along and doing nice scale flights with his Hirobo Lama.
http://www.rchelicoptertown.com/forum/photoplog/file.php?n=589&w=o
Somewhere during the winter Don added this A109 to his hanger, and it is also a frequent flier.
http://www.rchelicoptertown.com/forum/photoplog/file.php?n=621&w=o
A couple months ago I bought a .30 sized Hirobo that had been crashed. I did some glass work on it started painting it. Soon it was apparent that painting a scale fus with as small a house as mine is a summer time project. So in the air it went. It has a few issues that I want to address so more later.
http://www.rchelicoptertown.com/forum/photoplog/file.php?n=625&w=o
Knowing that this was gonna be down for a while I bought a AS355N fus to install Damien in. It's a .50 Raptor with a TT Ecureuil body. I fly it around sloppily on reasonably calm days in hopes I get better.

Neal was out again last weekend setting up his helis in his new 12FG and had a cute little Gaui 200 flybarless with him and his 15S A123 Trex 600E. He was my mentor on zip charging. I'd thought the process over and figured it to death but probably would have never gone to zip charging with out seeing him do it.
One of the real characters who consistently shows up is Sid. Great guy and massive fun to be around. He flies a Trex 600N and 700N. He is about as laid back as a frog on a hot griddle. Sometimes one would swear there was three of him. It's not hard to imagine him passing himself.
Rick is always there doing good 3d and getting better each weekend. He just stuffed his Trex 500 into one of the new Align Airwolf fuses. This should be interesting in the coming weeks.
Mike does great 3d but most often spends his time setting up / helping others. Great generous guy, very quiet.
Our Logo pilot was there Sunday for the first time since winter set in. Unfortunatly me being so poor with names I just nicknamed him Logo. Big feller I'm glad he don't mind.
I think that catches us up pretty well...not really but it's what I got. I'll be on the prowl and capture Skytrek, and SirDuke's equipment and maybe some action shots. Both those guys are laid back and mellow and much fun to have about. Don is not going to be around for a while so we should have some decent weather and winds.

Wow, do you it weekly? That is awesome!

Yep, Pretty much a weekly thing for at least a month or so since I have been involved. There are a great bunch of guys out there flying just about everything under the sun, from the 400 to 600 class electrics to some awesome high dollar scale birds and nitro's too. The 3d flying is impressive and the circuits are mesmerizing.
I think what caught me off guard is the verity of skill levels and personalities. My self and a few others will be over in an out of the way section of the flying field learning to hover, while the more experienced pilots give their heils a work out. No drugs, fowl language, bad attitudes or stuck up hobbyist. This past Saturday I noticed a lot of families came over from the near by hobby store just to watch these guys do there thing.
There may be a club out there in some fashion that I'm not aware of but the cool thing is, I really like the fact that you don't need one. Guys just show up and before you know it everyone is sharing heil stories and cracking each other up. No matter what level flier you may be or problem you are having someone is always there to lend a hand. Need a part?? Somebody on the flight line puts one in you hand before you can ask.
Being one of the newer pilots in training this situation has really made it easer to learn and grow. Heck, I'm even considering attempting some forward flight soon. If there is a down side, I'm finding it really hard not to spend a bunch of money on a new heli each week. Some of these birds are just unbelievable!!

Hi estarter and Zen, I have been guilty of that. :) I am really hoping to get some releases at work so I can fly again. With bad economy, the agency can't hire anybody, and I now have to do two jobs (my boss retired) and I have to take work home. It is killing me seeing you guys flying but I can't join. I don't see it getting better any time soon but I am not complaining yet as I can still have not only one but two job while some less unfortunate they don't have one. :) Will do it again for sure.

Sat 14 mar. This morning was dead on 40F and damp, with rain moving in. Not promising. I arrived at 0830 to get in some flights before the rain. Winds were a nice steady 10mph so it was pretty good flying if a bit chilly. Skytrek came and flew 2 batteries out.
http://www.rchelicoptertown.com/forum/photoplog/file.php?n=627&w=o
with his BlueRay (or whatever I'll hopefully be corrected, I'm slow mind you).
http://www.rchelicoptertown.com/forum/photoplog/file.php?n=628&w=o
So far he's only had to replace the tail servo and is doing great. It's a nice heli.
Rick carried out his Airwolf Trex 500 in Align body.
http://www.rchelicoptertown.com/forum/photoplog/file.php?n=629&w=o
He is running it on a Spektrum 6 ch and uses the gyro gain to control the retracts. He takes off/lands in rate mode and switching to HH retracts the gear. Neat.
http://www.rchelicoptertown.com/forum/photoplog/file.php?n=630&w=o
He made it for about 67 seconds before he was rolling around the airspace
http://www.rchelicoptertown.com/forum/photoplog/file.php?n=631&w=o
I think he made a good choice in scale... That wouldn't look right with a 47G.
Duke was there too but got there along with the rains and hung out inside with his new Tiger .50 (Audacity Helis). With Joe finishing up on the build. I never mentioned Joe he is Debbie's heli pro and an all around great guy. Just one of the kind of folks that makes it so fun to fly. Hmmm on second thought I guess I did mention him earlier.
Lordy this is fun stuff I got 7 flights in on the Swifts and then learned a riddle. Don, see if you can figure this one out? what has 950mm blades and is big as a couch?
http://www.rchelicoptertown.com/forum/photoplog/file.php?n=632&w=o
A guy came up and asked if any of us flew large scale helis. I said I have always wanted to, and we disagreed on the price. He thought it was worth much less than I thought it was, so it came home with me. :D Yes the tail boom section is indeed as long as a .30 sized Swift. Nice Vario Benzine rig with motor. Hey now I own a big heli! hmm electric start heli WHOOT!
Thanks Russell! He was kind enough to front me the spendolies I didn't have in me pocket. He left with an RTF 47G for from the same guy. Seems they had a disagreement on price too.

You're correct Steve(O) the heli is a BlueRay 450 and the canopy looks pretty good. You see, I have actually never seen it before in flight. When you are at the tail in hovering stage you cant see the canopy except when changing packs. It's a faith thing, I just have to believe it's there. Now I have proof.:D
Nasty day and kind of short but always a good time at Debby's. Next time I will get some pics of your birds for posting. The wind was not all that bad but my fingers went numb.

That thing is a monster! Hey Steve, do you think it can lift 135lb? Hmmm?

All take note of Steve's loaded truck bed of heli hobby essentials. Half inch PCV pipe in case you need a make shift tali boom. Theres a broom stick handle to take down any get-away rouge copters flown by one of us newbies. Looks like phone wire for those pesky Receiver or Gyro glitches. Take notice of the C-clamp attached to the bed cover that also dubs as a 6s battery hold, just in case your velcro strap breaks. Most importantly, a 10lb bag of CHARCOLE, needed for a bonfire after you attempt some weird 3d move and slam the heli to the ground. Somebody at Debby's always has hot-dogs and march-mellows on hand in anticipation of this event.

It's not a monster. It's a little bigger than a .30 sized Swift. I have decided I need to buy an accessory, like one of those "find your keys" clapper things. Working around this heli sometimes it's hard to find your beer.

Here ya go Steve this the Heli I just picked up for a hundred and a quarter. G2-PE by Exceed. Like I said, the boom is bent and the heli needs be be gone over but I would not think it would take more than $25.00 to get it back in the air.

Hey there ain't no PVC pipe in my truck. :? The wire is for zip charging A123, Clamp is for bungeeing my Nitro box to keep it in the back. Later in the summer (when Don gets home) we'll teach you about the "broom handle" and charcoal. I promise. Most of the folks there are my age and we'd never waste a chance to extinguish a fire in place vice walking into the indoor outhouse. This trip (as mentioned) is more likely the cause of dissapearnaces than alien abduction.
I'll be catering a day soon but Don has bought me several cups of coffee, and some "special creme filled" donuts, and I've left him hanging. If I had a gram of decency I'd feel guilty.
Winds are supposed to be 5-10 and upper 40's so I'm heading out again in the morning. :)

What time is it, 12am. I just received a call from work and one of my stores just had an armed robbery in Danville Va. I'm on my way out the door and will be lucky to be back by the time your hitting Debby's in the morning. So have some great flights for me too.

I need two creams and two sugars, I believe Steve takes his dark and murky, like his women. Hey while your there, pick up some AA batteries for my radio, just in case. Sat 03/21/09 Temps in the low 40s and our normal winds of 10-15mph and gusts to 21. Full house again but only some flying because the nippy winds were in our face and causing some discomfort.
Richard was out with some really nice deals on some scale projects. He had a .90 size Bell 222 with Xcel mechanics, Low KV rimfire, HV85 and servos for 500$. unpainted glass and retracts. I think Don would have bought it but he's off having fun in SC. He is working on 2 large projects and seems to be clearing out the smaller projects. He's also selling the 530 3 bladed "black ship" for 600$ bind N fly. Sort of a pity Don's off making all that money and missing all the good deals. Maybe he could find someone to act as an agent in his absense.
I only did about 3 flights 2 on the A123 Swift and 1 on the Xero-g and I hadn't flown in a week. For some reason Skytrek decided to disassemble his heli. He was out flying and then next thing I know he had it on the bench in pieces.

Sunday was just slam gorgeous, calm and short sleeves temps.
On Arrival Duke was already setup. See below for a pic of his biguns Audacity Tiger .50 and a R50 both nicely done. Also Setup were Tommy and Russell and a pic of their helis and a closer view of the 47G that was sold alongside the Huey I bought last weekend.
Busy field and a couple moments of excitement. This field is pretty small and we normally only fly one heli at a time occasionally 2. There may at times be upto 3 helis hovering on the edges/corners. With the primary hovering spot being under the overhead wires (shown in the background of T&R's fleet picture). Someone was in that spot and Derrick went out to hover in the corner to the right. He has hovering down pretty well and is learning to move it a bit. Meanwhile a bunch of us are joking around and we see a Raptor take off fast down the right side of the field very near the treeline. Who's that? It's Derrick. The heli makes a L turn way out and barrels across the implement lot. "WOW I didn't know he could fly like that!" Then it angles in and comes to a hover over the highway. "I think he's in trouble" "Sid go help him!" So sid runs over and takes the TX backs it back in to mid field and hands the tx back. Derrick lands right there and starts to walk off field. "Kill it Kill it" we shout at this point Derrick has no idea what we mean. Sid kills it, collective sigh of relief.
http://www.rchelicoptertown.com/forum/photoplog/file.php?n=633&w=o
A little bit later Richard takes his heli out to the hovering spot (left corner) and fires it up. About the same time Russell brings the 47G out to the flight zone thinking Richard was doing a check hover. After a couple mins Richard hears the 47G sounding close and looks for it (both are flying now). Richard looses orientation on his and flys through the power lines on the other side of the access road, pulling up just before the trees. (Just under the 13 marker) The rotor was clicking down one of the cables! He managed to get it back out bring it up the access road and land it.
http://www.rchelicoptertown.com/forum/photoplog/file.php?n=634&w=o
You can see the wrinkles in the blades from hitting the power lines. It folded one of the blades up in flight hard enough to ding at the grip. Lesson learned if you are gonna fly, go out mid field and fly, so everyone knows your intention. Richard doesn't often fly with us so he assumed he'd have the field while Russell assumed he'd just be hovering.
Other than that it was a relaxing day at Debbies' and the only things crashed was Trex 250s not much to note about that. Rick's and Tommy's both got rearranged.

Try touching power lines 'on purpose'..... lol
Glad to hear all made it back down ok.
Not much to note about 250 crashes? Why not? Don't they make enough shrapnel when they go down? Mine seems to have a loose tail. Have you heard of that from Rick or Tommy.
Next time I'm on the road, I may just have to stop @ Debbies as I feel I have been there before just from all the reading.

Yah man come on down to vacation in VaBch. You'll love it they have 10 signs posted everywhere on the beach because all the rules won't fit on one unless it's the size of a Hotel. You don't really need to read it all though because concisely it all means "If it's fun or frugal it's illegal", Just lay on a towell and go indoors and buy anything you want to eat or drink you'll be OK. That's OK though we'll be out flying. :D
Not much to note because they don't make any noise when they lawn dart. You only find out after the fact. Tommy's broke a screw and threw a grip. It was found when someone noticed a neat colored "popsicle stick". He griped about it but Tommy isn't exactly mister happy at the best of times. Rick hmm does 3D very well but he is constantly fiddling. I honestly don't think he has ever liked a tail on anything. Very picky fellow. It does seem that getting the HS up to around 4K where it wants to be the tail blades are much too big making one turn the gain down too low and getting a soft feeling. Perhaps try the smaller blades?

its so hard for me to imagine that many fliers just showing up every weekend to fly. guess it's the difference in a larger town.
Anyway, some pretty amazing stories there steve. That out of control raptor would have scared me half to death, and then getting it under control and leaving it running. *sigh* hopefully he learned his lesson.
Also, I assume you have some sort of frequency board or soemthing to manage? Or do all the regualrs just have 2.4 or their own frequency that no one else operates on? Ie - you always use one channel, someone else always uses another, etc etc. Thats kinda how it is at our park, I'm the only one that uses channel 60 around here and i kinda like it that way.
swatson144
03-25-2009, 03:22 AM
There is a Freq board in place and a notice to also let them know inside. Most of us are on 2.4g but there are some holdouts who use the freq board.
Poor Derrick wasn't even capable of thought at that point. I've seen it before they just suddenly have an overpowering urge to get rid of the TX. Even with 20 people yelling kill it, at that point it's all meaningless words that defy comprehension.

Man, I missed the fun on Sunday!! Saturday was a windy crash and attempt to re-setup day. While Steve made fun of me for buying only one cheap servo that did not match the rest on my Heli. Needless to say, STEVE WAS WRONG AND EVERYTHING WORKED JUST FINE!!
Ok he was right (%^$*), and I never was able to get the heli set up correctly and later found the servo throws to be way different! I will never attempt a head re-build at the field again and would have had more fun drinking coffee with the guys.
Now for the big news!! Being the silver tooth devil that I am, I was able to talk Steve(O) out of one of his swift 16s, WOOT!!!.
Seriously, I can't wait to fly something bigger than a bumble bee and hope it will help with the learning curve.

I got in a wonderful 1/2 day dead calm and gorgeous mid 60s. The clouds and drizzle came in about 2pm and mostly quit flying and started yacking. Todays supposed to be horrendous but it's looking pretty good from what I can see, so I'm on my way out and get several flights in before the crowd shows or weather changes.
I flew the Ecureuil and the xero-g yesterday. They were getting lonely with all the Swift flying that's been going on.
Put that gasser in the air they don't mind wind.

Sunday at Debbies turned into more of a social event than a flying event. I got 2 flights in early and then the winds calmed down but the gusts were horrific. 10-15mph and fairly constant and then a waloping 35 mph gust. People would stand around and talk until they forgot how unsettling a gust like that was then they'd go out and fly again usually returning with fuel left in the tank.
Sid put his Trex 700 in hard. Wasn't pretty. It'll take some coin to get it straight.

~80$ as best I recall. Somehow the sticker fell off before Mrs. Watson could happen to see it. Lucky break for me, that.
I'm still gathering and waiting on temps. Who wants to be wet sanding when temps are in the 40s. I need to muck out the garage and get some room to move around in there.
I just got back from Debbie's and some flying. Not too bad today. Met up with Skytrek and watched him flog his new swift. I think he likes it well enough. I got 2 flights in on the xero-g and just generally had a pleasant day. SirDuke was there as were a surprising # of people. I guess there was an epidemic and many people were too sick to work this afternoon. Winds were calm with an occasional 15mph gust so not bad at all. About 50F so wind in the face was no problem.

Well fellas let me tell you, I had the best flying day at Debby's since I started back February. The new Swift is like a Cadillac compared to the 450 sized birds I have been training with. I must have burned off 15 packs between all my helis and for the first time was even able to swallow the whole time. Never attempting a 30 size before, what a difference in the learning curve.
All you new guys, think of this as a ordering fast food from the drive threw. When the pimple face kid says "you want to go large" you say "YES PLEASE"!!:D

Hmmm I missed last weekend which was a fairly nice day (Sunday) just some fun and some flying. Sid hadn't got his motor back yet from the previous weekends encounter. Neal was on the scene with his Protos on 6S A123. I had come back in from flying and was hooking up to recharge when I heard "its on fire". I looked up and Neals protos was smoking on the ground. Knowing it wasn't LiPos I finished connecting and went on out to see what was up. HIs PHX60 was in chared little pieces and much too smoking hot to pick up so he was hunkered down trying to rake them in a pile to pick up. I thought I'd burned a few up but man that dude was smoked all the chips/wires melted off and even desoldered one of the connections on the other end of a motor wire.
Today Sat I brought out a grill and some Brats. Man you set up a grill full of training aids around heli dudes and you'd a thunk it was 2" thick T bones. We had all the condiments you could want as long as you only wanted mustard. When every one finished they kept wanting to give me money to chip in but I told them the next time I see a bunch of brats in a dumpster I'll bring them on out again.:D
The weather guessers predicted rain and high winds but it turned out to be a nice morning. I got a late start and didn't show up until ~11 Skytrek Sir duke and a bunch of others were there. Then Don showed up and got a Flight in with his Lama. Probably 1:30 a front moved in and drove everyone off. Wind rain and nastiness...I even got home by 5:30.
Duke saw some good air time with his Tiger, Skytrek was getting compliments on how well he was doing (while he was out of earshot).
Here's hoping for a good day in the AM.

What a fun filled sat. Finaly got back in town to enjoy slightly aged brats steve brought with him to the field (good thing i carry tumms in my car !) weather was nice in the first part of the day then turned into liquid sunshine never seen so many old men move so fast lol. Steve and john did some field repair to a franken copter and we all learned that when you put an inducted fan motor in a heli you get realy fast head speed lol and a motor too hot to touch !! We all shared war stories and I got to know barrys darker side lol do not try to steal time with this guy around ! gonna call him mr. security from now on lol or maybe quick draw ? will say that after 5 weeks away from the guys it was nice to be back home even getting abused by steve was a nice change....

Another day at Debbies. Arrival time was 0830. It was windy and cold but a fairly constant wind with gusts maybe to 20 mph. Soon after my first flight the other Steve arrived to fly his Raptor. He had parked it in the field a couple weekends ago from dumbthumbs Raised the stick to gain altitude from an inverted hover. Really hard landing right on the stop button.
Don called up and asked how the weather was (it was calming) and offered to bring coffee after I said "Bring Coffee". Good lad that Don, always thoughtfull! He arrived with fat pills and shared and everything.
The weather took a turn for the better and much flying was had. Pretty soon the rest of the crowd realized the weatherman was an idiot and started arriving. Duke beat them in and had a couple good flights on the Tiger.
A gent had bought a used .90 Preditor along about the time Duke was beginning and had become a regular fixture at the field, but it occured to me that I never saw him fly the pred ever. So's me being all bashfull, asked what kind of training system involved leaving your heli at home. He reappeared a few mins later with his B400 and Pred. He was working with the B400 in the parking lot (store closed for Easter) and got blown up a little high and NewbySlammed. So you gonna fly the Pred? Yep OH yeah! Duke fueled it with his fuel (thanks Duke I'd have to of moved a bunch of stuff to get a .90 and it's Satanic training gear near enough to fuel it). So Mike helped him start it and took it out for a check flight. Then after a break I helped him start it and Mike walked out with us to watch him hover. Spinning up and up then light on the skids, then skids off the ground but still touching mother earth with the demonic rods and softball sized plastic balls. No hesitation at that point just a smooth ascent through 4', 5, Great going so far...as soon as the ascent stopped there was about a 15 degree roll and I thought here we go again (forward flight from a hovering learner) LAND IT! SLAM, Err, OK, good but not so hard.
Whooo I learned a couple leasons myself. Just because someone has been around for a couple months and asking questions, using a SIM, don't assume the learning would be on the forefront of the brain on the first hover of a large heli.
When you have a thought go with it. When he got it up on the training gear, I thought about having him ease it down and up a couple times, but didn't, after all he'd been around for months. Let's just see how he does, I can be sooo dense.
I swore the last time I was around a fly away I was gonna make the new guy promise to DO AS I SAY. I didn't this time again. Fortunately he did listen, right friggen then. The thing had rolled a good amount but never got the chance to build up speed. He cut throttle and avoided it getting away from him.
I will never again walk out to offer guidance and moral support to a beginner with a neck strap clipped to a transmitter. If he had hesitated and corrected, winding up in FFF I don't think him handing me the TX would have been an option. I don't know how well it would have worked out in any event but I think it's an option I'd like to have.
This story ended happily with broken tail blades and a broken slider as the only damage.
Joe actually flew today. He spends more time working on OP helis than flying.
John was back again and flying great 3D. He, "Logo Chris" and I stayed and jawed until after dark.
Mike is moving off this weekend and there is a dinner for him (according to Sam) at Gus & Georges Steakhouse 7 pm Tursday.

Easter, not one of my favorite holidays for sure but the whole family came out for dinner and we had some awesome eats and great company. Over all a nice day but the dang bunny failed to bring my basket with the T-rex 600 I was hoping for, (Rodents should not be trusted).
However, I would hate to admit to my family that the whole afternoon I was thinking, wow what a great day to fly, temps good, no rain (Voodoo- Don must have been busy!!) and the wind was light. I know, I'm sick and need to go to Heli's Anonymous.
Saturday, Don made it back in town and the whole group seemed more complete as the joking and ribbing was back to normal levels. Never really studied his method of flight but was impressed with his controlled circuit flying. There are only a hand full of guys out there who make seriously controlled flight look easy and Steve and Don got it going on.
Somebody brought some bad hot dogs to the filed and when I said they taste funny, I believe Steve said there Brats and should taste like the under side of a tode. Later I noticed everyone who ate any spent more time in the john than on the flying field!!:D Just kidding, thanks for the great food Steve, we all ate until stuffed, (Sir Duke was hovering better after a few Brats, GO DUKE).
The Rick'ster help me finish tweaking out my 450 after the new up grades. The Guy is awesome and can make a heli do things it sould'nt be able to do. Steve(O) did not fly because he was to busy cooking for the crowd but did bring out he seven foot heli. This thing is the BOMB and I have dibs on the first ride!:D. Overall a great weekend and I can't wait until next.
Hope to get to those A123's this week and have to solder directly to the batteries, (NO TABS ATTACHED ). Wish me luck, I think I'm going to need it!!

Sunday Sunday AH yes sunday :) Flew all of my heli's sunday some even twice lol. The day started out like any other day got up charged the batts and called steve to see if he was allowed out to play ! Dang if he wasnt at the field already and didnt even bother to call ( dang commie ) so after a few mins of talk he demanded coffee and my smileing face at the field. What a gread day it was (so much for me being the bad weather guy) sunny and calm (Did notice skytrek was not there ?) so after some coffee and fat pills the day began with one fun flight after another (mmmmm calm day no skytrek ?) Steve did his norm sunday being a smart A** and keeping everyone laughing and trying to help def people learn to fly lol, Sid did a crash and burn of a 450 and sirduke kept up with his hover lessons ( doing a great job too ) all in all a great fly day (mmmmmm calm day no skytrek ?) Makes a you kind of wonder who is responsible for bad fly days lol

04-13-2009, 04:46 AM
Oh no, nope naha!!!
The reason Sunday turned out to be so nice is simple to understand.
1) Don was planning on flying therefore he conjured up a beautiful day.
2) Steve is waiting on his 90, so Don is going to wait to screw up the first flight.
3) I was not able to make it out to the field do to the pastel bunny!!
More evidence of Dons Voodoo;
Must have a doll that looks like Steve, because last week his back was killing him but Saturday Steve was fine. Don likes sticking pins in the Steve doll from time to time.
Note, Done seems to leave Steve alone while cooking Brats!! Hummm,:D

04-13-2009, 11:39 AM
MMMMMMMMMM Let's think this out.
1. don flys wind or no wind.
2. steve cooks some awfull brats lol
3. skytrek (barry) can not prove of any voodoo dolls I may have that may or may not look like barry or steve..
4. don waits for nothing to ruin anyones fun lol
Seems like this is a coverup to blame don for the bad weather, you know like when someone farts and blames his buddy :) so I like to put this to a poll is it skytrek or me doing the bad weather thing ? you must also remember that barry not don was around for the past 5 weeks the weather was bad !!

Man what a day ! Boss got tired of looking at my face and told me to go home early, What a suprise there were heli's in the car (not that i preplan these things) so on the phone to steve and off to the field. The field was ours only 3 people there upon arrival and lots of time to play, rick was playing around with his align 250 (such a cute little heli) adjusting things as he normaly does, steve showed up with his huey and the stage was set for a great friday of flying. If only others could get a half day off to enjoy a afternoon of flying. Sat supposed to be a nicer day and if barry does not show up the weather should stay nice lol

Man what a sat. at Debbie's. Steve started the day by calling and making his demands for coffee ! cheep sob one of these days !!!! got to the field and the weather was awsome just awsome, so much for me being the bad weather guy huh. Got to see Barry do some forward flight today (he is really coming along) as well as Steve fly his small UH-1 which later started acting up. seems like today was a bad day for nitro guys (good thing I have my electric helis as back up) Did some mods to the coast guard heli and man what a diff !! flys straight and true :) some other items came up today but I will let Barry and Steve explain their dirty mind in their blog lol all in all it was a great day of friends flying and fun !! life don't get any better.....

This past weekend was just awesome, great weather, great friends, and good flights.
I took some friendly advise from Don after he was watching me fly the training T. Don pulled me to the side indicating he had watched me flying this formation most of the day and recommended I give just a little more tail in the turns to achieve true side in flight.
It's funny how your mind works, just before this conversation I was thinking (I got the T down, now what).
Being the good student that I am, the next flight I followed Don's direction.
Guess what, my canopy is (YELLOW with SWIFT written on the side)!! Paint job looks pretty good, WOOT!!
Steve(o) was having issues with one of his scale heli's and by the end of the day he concluded air was getting into the gas from one of the lines. However, his Raptor was working great and late in the day he even let me take a shot at flying it. I though my swift is nice, this thing flies awesome. I could feel it telling me (enough of this light hovering crap, push my nose down and lets go).
Most of the crowed left in midday for Sir Dukes fun fly, but we were having all having issues like Steve through. I had crashed my 450 earlier and had to replace the main shaft and large drive gear. Sorry Duke!!
Sunday, changed the Swift over to A123's and looking forward to next weekend!!

I'm sitting here in my troll room (what wife calls my garage) with my best friends (my dogs lol ) getting ready for a great day of flying. It kind of early (like 5ish am) and you would think a guy would sleep in on a sat but hell no I'm getting ready to fly lol. The best thing about a day at the field is not only getting to fly but also to spend time with a bunch of guys that share your passion. I do get to fly my mini-t at home but its just not the same as a day at the field. With guys like Barry, Steve, Joe, john and the rest of the guys it makes for a good day out even if you have a flight issues ( i wont say crash lol) The relay great thing is all the help you get or can give to others in the hobby plus its nice to know that your not the only one in the dog house for not doing honey do's lol. So if your in the area stop by Debbie's rc world and say hi to us or if not get out and fly in your hometown and enjoy a nice day outside :)

Ah yes what a nice day today. Got to the field after a few short stops at wally world and of course coffee shop (so I don't haft to listen to Steve) Barry was there as well as Steve the other guys went to a fun fly at another field which left us a nice quiet un-crowded field. Steve brought along this strange new heli he got a 90 size vairo with the cutest purple boom and head assy and some other parts and to match this sweet purple heli he also got the new designer gyro from futaba such a sweet little thang almost as big as my thumb nail lol after a few good jokes about his semi not macho heli it was all down to flying. At lunch time it was decided that Barry should go and get lunch (big mistake) what should have taken a few Min's took hours and we all almost starved. Seems that Barry has no sense of direction lol how can you not find a taco bell sheesh ! (its not like there isn't one on every conner!!) the afternoon was as good as the morning good flying weather and real warm temps and just as soon as it started it was time to head to the homestead. strike up another great day at Debbie's RC world :D

Yep great day. 1st day of the year I've felt the need to expose me (fish belly white) legs in shorts. It topped 90F and we decided the porta shade needed to be involved in the day. Decent 10-15 mph breeze most of the day.
There was a fun fly in Chuckatuck and most of the people went. They soon found that helis were an unknown to the hosting club and were required to have a spotter/caller and fly the pattern with the planks. Around noon they asked themselves "what were we thinking?" and came back to Debbie's. We all had some good flight times in by then and settled in for promulgating peace and tranquility amongst the group. Well as best it can be spread in the manner we have grown accustomed to, which has some of the earmarks of spreading hatred and discontent except a little friendlier.
Skytrek was working his Swift over and keeping the 9s A123 packs charged in 10 min cycles. Now there are 2 swifts being zip charged at the field.
I got the Ecureuil back in the air briefly so it seems to be working now.
it has been a while since some pictures have been posted so here's a couple. Skytrek was trying on the X-perience canopy. It was truely strange Don didn't even mention the time Mrs. Skytrek came home and told him "Take off my shirt, now take off my pants, now take off my bra, and I don't want to catch you wearing them again!". So the picture with "cone head the bombastic" also has Don and Joe in it. Some of the helis present today (it wasn't planned and several others were not in it). I'll see about getting a picture with all the helis tomorrow if there's a good turn out.

I agree, it was a great day and nice to have the field to our selves until early afternoon. As Steve pointed out the A123's seemed to be a good choice for the Swift. The only issues, getting my mind wrapped around plugging in the right leads in correct sequence at start up. I'm not used to having to plug in eight leads and would forget to attach all but 2 while sitting at the bench. Therefore, I ended up on the ground in the middle of the flying field fumbling around. Over all, well worth the time and money.
Joe Elder, picked up his Blue Ray after upgrading the gyro and tail servo. We spent a few minutes spinning the heli up and the tail held very well. Joe is just starting and decided to wait for a less windy day to get in some hover practice, Good decision Joe!! I waited until the wind subsided before flying the 450 as well.
More info to come but it is late and the only reason I'm up is waiting for a phone call from work. I just received this call and I'm heading in for the night.

Now down to business,
Steve(O) brought out his Low budget Vario X-Perience. Low budget my butt, the servos are closing in on the cost of my Swift all by the selves. This 90 size bird is huge and the carbon blades look like Arnold's sward in the move Conan. The motor could easily power a good sized dirt bike and the tail boom should be installed as a main water line for your house. Dam- cool but scary heli and I will be in my truck next week when he spools the thing up.
He bought this, what he call disposable heli used and had to take what ever the color it was but (PURPLE) and I mean (PURPLE). Well all Don and I could say was, Well Steve its very very pretty:D. Hold on then he showed us the new gyro he is going to be using, it's about the size of a nickel and once again all we could say was, Steve that very very cute, does it say (Decor Series) on it anywhere? Hmmmm??lollollollollollollol
Then Don noticed Steve(O)'s screw driver set was purple too. That was it, we were no good for about ten minutes. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D
Don flew his T-Rex and I had to ask, Ahhhh Don I noticed you seemed to be quite aggressive with that heli, thats not like you, being the scale expert. Voodoo Don's reply was short, "It aint me that dang thing wants to move and I just kinda go with it". It was not so much what reply we but the look on his face:shock:.
Again, fantastic time with these guys and I learn a little more each weekend. I wish everyone who frequent this sight could come out to Debby's as I can guarantee an interesting fun day!! Can't say that about most things in life.

Seems like Barry likes the look of shock on someones face lol yes the T-rex is an aggressive heli but man that thing is so smooth in the air :) and I really do think Steve is starting to show his softer side with the new heli lol PURPLE good god I would have painted it before I brought it to the field lol

steve - if you want to get rid of the purple - you can deanodize the stuff. I actually have had really good luck deanodizing parts in my wife's jewelry cleaner. I think it's because I mix the cleaning stuff WAY too strong, and the chemicals in the stuff strip it more than anything else. However, size is limited using this method, so it may not work for you.
Also, i've heard Greased Lightning will work, or oven cleaner. Also warm water with lye in it works as well. Just a few suggestions if you want to strip the purple off.

Ernie and I stopped in at Debbie's after a great breakfast at Phil's Cafe. 1st flight was wonderful. near 70F sunny and calm. I mean like < 5mph calm. By the time I relaxed a min and refueled it had grown a little cloudy and within a couple mins of starting the 2nd flight gusts were reaching 35mph (from weatherbug on arriving at home) and the windsock was snapping stiff. We went from great flying to pretty horrid conditions as the front moved in. Wind in the face sometimes at 2 mph and gusts that rocked me back on my heals. Ernie had great fun watching as I flew circuits and 8s making rotor noise like I was doing 3D. I finished the flight but didn't start another as I was very concerned that there could be some of those 60mph mothers hidden in there somewhere. That blowing the heli and exhaust towards me thing seems to take some of the fun out of it.
I got Dr. Ernie to pose with the xero-G.

I'm thinking reverse psychology might be in order here. Make a post that says your not going to be able to make it to Debbies because of needle like pain in your extremities. That way, he'll feel guilty about the voodoo doll, pull out the needles, and just plain forget to call in the wind storm. Win / Win

Now as far as I am concerned the only way to see what the weather's doing is to look outta the window that way you know for certain if its raining cos you'll see the droplets falling from the sky or if your lucky you will see the sun shining from above, so I say "looking outta the window" is the best way to know what the weather is doing :D :D

I have just bought my first heli and have an issue. I chose this forum because I live in Va Beach and know where debbys is located. I bought a century 16 and it wont spin up when I push the throttle up, it is just beeping at me. Does anyone know anything about this heli?
Thank you
Stewart Peadturthan
Sounds like the throttle chan needs to be reversed and you are in programming mode. It's probably best if you bring it out and get it looked at/checked over. Bring instructions for the ESC if it isn't a CC. I've owned a couple 3 swifts, Don's flying one, so is Barry you'll get it straight.
The weather guessers here are usually wrong or a day late/early. I love it when they call for craptastic weather and everyone stays home until they stick their heads out and see a gorgeous day. Usually this lets me and the other Steve take turns until noon. Don drags up about 11:00 no matter the weather. They nailed it perfect yesterday though great day in the AM and horrible windy in the afternoon. Hmmm they probably had a party and will for decades refer to "that day they got it right in 2009".

Thanks,
I switched the throttle and it starts up but wont lift off the ground? The head spins really slow and I can feel the air pushing up not down? Any ideas? I was out a debbies a few weeks ago on Saturday watching, are you Steve the black guy who flies heavy 3d? I will try to come out to meet you this week end.
Thanks Stew

Sounds like the CCPM is not setup in your radio correctly. I'm the fat white guy with a couple helis in the back of an old brown dodge. Sounds like you are running a Futaba TX?

You're right about the tx being futaba. I some what understand what you are talking about but I'm just learning. I got this heli from a friend and I'm not very mechanical. Would you mind if I go to Debby's and get some pointers from you.
I hate to say this but have found it to be the right thing to do. I was in a bad car accident about 10 years ago and ended up handicapped. I have found warning people that I don't know it is the right thing to do.
This type of thing upsets some people. So let me know if you may have an issue.
Thanks

Thanks for inviting me Steve, we'll call it a date.
You see I was out drinking one night, when I was a young man and the guy I was with loss control of his car and hit a Bobs Big Boy statue. Well the statue almost cut the car in half and I was lucky to get out alive. However, I lost my left eye, right leg, and left hand in the accident. Although I survived, my boy friend did not, I can't tell you how much I miss Jeff. I just called him my Jeffy Boy, he was the light of my life!!!
I thought flying helis would be a great way to meet boys. Flying helis, wow that just sound so pretty. Don't you worry, my accident was bad but all the important parts sill work great, if you know what I mean!!!:D
Any how, I can't wait to meet you and don't say your fat. I like my men plump!! I will make a special shopping trip before Saturday, so look for a guy in a wheelchair wearing all pink.
My friend said this heli forum would pay off and I guess he was right!!

Looks like Voodoo Don has his work cutout to make this weekend flyable.

OK did you ever have one of them days you wished you stayed in the garage and shopped on e-bey ? I wish I had :( got to Debbie's this morning and all was quiet. just me and Steve (not our swatson144) took the lama apart and flushed the fuel system out new glow plug and fresh fuel, started the motor after a good cleaning and all seemed good. Nice power on liftoff and rotor speed was back to norm. OK put all the body parts one and wait on Steve to bring lunch and fly the electric scale for a bit. Now comes the bad part :( took the lama out to fly again, took off nice and did a good roll out into a nice turn and then things went south. Rotor speed went down power went down nose in to a strong head wind and tail down she went.... thank god I was low so the damage is bad but not so bad I need to replace it lol other than that the day was pretty good (trying to lift my spirits up lol ) of course Barry (skytrek) could not come out to play today guess his better half tied him down and showed him who was boss lol. well guess its over to the work bench and try and see what the damage is and how much I will need to dump into her.........

I was there and it sucked! A scale heli always makes such a nauseating sound when it hits the ground. Sure hope that few of us ever get to hear it. The first time was more than enough for me and I sure hated to hear that loathsome noise today. At Don's request I took a couple pictures (after he had straightened it somewhat over his knee). Tail, cracked cockpit, and some damage to the mechanics including blades.
I didn't even fly today. The morning was spent on Lisa's car and I didn't arrive 'til noon. When i first got there the weather was "not so hot" and then rain, then some fair, then pretty, then rain...In and out like that. I just enjoyed the day and the company.

Oh no Don,
Now I'm glad I had to work today. Sorry to hear one of your birds came down without permission. This was the one you were having fuel issues with right? What happened and how bad was the crash on a scale from 1-10?? This calls for a new Heli mantra " Well, You crash one,...... You build one".
Saturday was a great day with the guys but the wind was gusting 12-30. I flew the Swift and the Blue Ray against my better judgment and every flight was an adventure to say the least. For some reason I knew I was going to crash because I was losing orientation each and every time I went up. Once while in a right hand turn with the swift, a gust came up and I over corrected. Had to send her high and spin it to my week side. However, I was able to catch it but now the dang thing is coming at me, full nose in. I would like to explain how I managed to get out of this predicament but I was so happy that I had just saved the heli, I don't know what happened after that!!:D Walking of the field I just acted like, (oh yea I meat to do that), and on body said anything, SWEET!! :D
Anyhow, just did not feel comfortable in the air this weekend.

Great weekend at Debbie's again. Sat was nice and sunny but pretty windy/gusty. Sun was windy in the AM cool and winds tapered off during the day.
It was a pretty dead weekend as far as attendance. The heliTown folk were pretty much there both days, at least for some parts of the day.
Don got the Lama in the air Sunday.
Skytrek got about 10 flights in with the Swift and was making some really nice smooth coordinated turns Sunday.
Whooot!!! SirDuke went WTG on his first flight Sunday. his heli looked like it was hanging from a string. In fact his knees were moving more than the heli, but that flight and every flight after that he left the field grinning. He was very surprised when TC brought a rousing round of applause, as he actually thought it was going to go unnoticed.

Sat Don and I were at HeliFun. We made it back early Sun morning. The weather report was horrid but I went out to Debbie's Sunday morning and got 2 flights in all alone. It was calm and overcast. The other Steve showed up and got a flight in with his Viper. On my 3rd flight the wind changed from my back to my face and it started raining which signaled the end of the flying day. I wound up helping a guy from the outer banks fix up a used Blade 400 and check hovered it for him. His brother was there with the tiny little Helimax (rebadged walkera) fixed pitch and I got a go or 2 with it in the track area (indoors). Reese was quite smitten with it.

What a nice Saturday it was today, Not many people at the field most went to a rc jet fly so it was pretty much ours. Things started out trying to find out why I have bad vibes on my coast guard bird. Seems like the hollow main shaft could not hold up to my aggressive scale flying  and I had to replace it with a new solid shaft. I still have a slight vibe but I'm sure Steve and I will figure it out. Went to fly my Lama only to give Steve a reason to laugh finding that last weekend I broke my starter nut clean off the starter shaft with the nut attaching itself on my starter, (so much for flying the lama :( ) One thing we did learn today is that Barry aka steward ;) has no sense of direction lol We let him drive today to taco bell and had the ride of our life ! when trying to help him find his way we were entertained to short stops and quick turns lol needless to say he should invest in a garman or tom tom to help him get around the block In all though a nice warm day good friends and some time in the air makes for a great day :D

Had a great time at Debbys over the holiday weekend. Flew on Friday, Saturday, and Monday. Got some good practice in with the new swift and became more comfortable with it by Monday. Steve and Don were both there most of the weekend. Don had some vibe issues with the Coast Guard Scale heli and discovered the hollow main shaft was bent. We don't really know how this happened since it was not the result of a crash. We suspect that maybe a few hard landings could have been the case?? He replaced the shaft but the bird still had the vibes but much less. Steve was inundated with those of us needing guidance, while I took advantage of an open flying field.
Monday was good and bad, Erny brought out the Huey he has been working on for weeks to tweak and do the first test flight. Never got it in the air but the heli is very close to getting in the air.
I was feeling frogy and did my first nose in flight with the Swift and the 450, woot!!:D However, on my last fight I attempted to adjust my hand on the TX and hit the throttle switch by mistake. Scarred the crap out of me as the Swift was doing a nice auto towards the ground. I should have just landed the heli but I flipped the switch back which sent the bird spinning to the ground.:( Luckily, the crash was very light and all I lost was one blade and a little setup.:D
Anyhow, overall a good weekend with friends and family. Hope everyone else has a great holiday!!

I managed to fly at Debbie's fri, sat, and sunday. It's been a few days and not much to write about. There was a jet fly at Fentris so many of the regulars were gone to it so it was pretty quiet. Now you've gone and hurt me feelings. No drag though cause the Vario is in the air now and that's a whole lot of purple, orange, an' yeller.
I went out to debbie's this morning while no one else was there and started more trimming. Yesterday I had called Joe Howard (Mr. Vario in the US) and he informed me the problems I have been having were caused by having Nitro in the fuel. Switched to FAI 0 nitro and retuned and she came out straight. Go figure the solution to the problem was to run 12$ a gal fuel instead of 30$ a gal. Hee hee Go figure. By the time I snuck up on lean enough to run there was several others there so I only had a 1/2 tank flight but it landed good temp wise. I had over an hour of fiddling with it so I wasn't too sure how much battery was left. Don came in and we put it in the air again for a few mins and it was doing fine. I'll run some fuel through it tomorrow at Debbie's for sure! I really like it now.

Did you ever have one of them Days ? Sat started out with great warm weather I went out with the intention of getting things done ! The Coast guard swift was first on my list of problem children to repair, after a few choice words some abuse from the peanut gallery I finally got the upgrades in and was ready to test fly and see if the vibe problems went away. Success :) she flew great ! also did a range check by flying without my antenna install lol luck was on my side for once ! OK one down 2 to go. Next to attack was the Lama with the broken starter shaft once again a few choice words some more abuse from the peanut gallery and off to the air I go. Semi-success ! she was making some really strange squeaking noises at first I thought it was Steve walking behind me but alas it was my heli :( Tear down found a dry one way bearing which someone forgot to lube lol. OK all greased up put the blades back on and into the air. What an awesome flight the lama was back to herself again but wait what was that you said bob ? I put what blades on ? the 600 mm blades awww no way man did I ? OK lesson number 2 for the day, a .30 will fly with 600 mm blades and even though there was no clearance and the blades were right over the tail blades she flew great lol good thing I don't do 3D I might have found out the bigger blades wouldn't work ! Anyway It was a great day all in all cept Barry did have a slight landing issue with one of his helis **** that ground comes up fast lol

During the repairs, did you ever find out what might have caused the Vibration? Sounds like you still got a lot done. You were able to fly 2 repaired helis8-).

the Vibes went mostly away when I replaced the upper bearing block with the aluminum upgrade and the lower bearing block/motor support again with the aluminum upgrade. she still seems to vibrate on spin up but after a few mins in the air it smooths out nicely.

Well what a few days Ive had at Debby's. Last Monday, I had a little accident with the Swift 16 I bought from Steve(O). I was trying to change hand positions and hit throttle hold by mistake and crashed lightly. Saturday I was flying the 450 and doing a piro and the heli just kept going and going, and going, all the way to the ground. Later we discovered the limit on the gyro was at about 140, which is way more than needed. Therefore the tail servo burnt up and locked my bird in a spin , but I did do about 45 piro's before crashing :D. Then on Sunday my newly built Swift lost single with the radio and went into the ground on its head :x.
Good part;
Had a ball with the fellas and total cost for repairs about $150. Voodoo did well with the weather for a change but has a pink tali on his lama and pink radio grips too, gay lollol. Steve(O) was fling the Dino copter quite a bit (Sweet) but does not realize it takes up the whole staging area and more. I don't put my helis next to it because I'm pretty sure that thing will eat them. :D
On Vacation this week so, I'm heading out to the field in the morning and will be there most of the afternoon. Come on out if'n you can dudes!!:D

All I can say is you guys are color blind ! the tail is red and the grips are blue, If you looked real hard it was Steve's radio you were fondling my man. Talk about gay what kind of person plays with pink grips on another mans radio  It clear to me now that you guys are so jealous over my lama and that everyone loves to see her in the air :D oh well such is life :p lol

It's been a busy weekend for me Fri, Sat, Sun, and Tues, flying at Debbie's. Reasonably slow during all of those days. Of course there was bursts of busy field periodically.
Skytrek is having a bad period. I had to sit through a couple of his crashes this weekend, and one failure induced auto today. His new tail servo burned out but this time he had the sense to go to TH and suffered some bent skids and seemingly nothing else. About as successful an auto as you could hope for from 40' with a mini. It often comes in surges like that. Feb and Mar 2008 was a particularly bad time for me with 3 crashes in late Feb and 3 more in early march. Hey it's not like breaking a fishing rod these things can be fixed.
Don wasn't there and the winds were nice. Hot but it's June in the south so go figure.
I got a couple flights on the vario and went home.

I went out to Debbie's yesterday afternoon to pick up a couple items for the big huey. I got there and Don was pulling out so I waved my finger and he came over to chat.
I'd brought the X-perience out since I was there anyway. I got what I needed but they didn't have what Don or Clarence wanted. I beat Clarence out to the flight line and burned about a 1/2 tank, darker and darker so I landed. Clarence rushed out with his 12S flybarless razor only to get soaked in the downpour 1 min later. Wow that was a rain marble sized drops and lots of them. we stashed his gear in the truck and waited it out for a few mins, only to have it quit and start back as soon as he started flying. We both gave up.

I took a long hard look at the bottle and I am at a loss Steve ? My guess is that the steward side of him is still trying to find a way out and he grabbed the bottle of mystery substance not knowing it was stew doing it. I am sure if you were to ask his no-macho side you will find it may have something to do with non-macho acts lol I am guessing at this point so your on your own as to what it is and what is in this bottle :D see you in a few hours at the field.

The bottle in question is to clean dirt and grime from my helis tales. Thats right, I said it clean my tales!!lollol We fly on a field with dirt and grass that gets into the works. Therefore, having recently crashed every copter I own, I aint taking any chances.

Sad, because I don't have much time to myself; happy, because my paychecks are awesome:razz:. I recently recieve a position in the OR at the hospital I work at which is an advancement. The bad news is a lot of call, but in contrast the good news is great $$$$$. I am still working on battery mod and fixing the HBFP. I still have the Corona, but haven't had time yet to bring her out. On the serious side, I was looking at the Airwolf fuse for my 450. Its about the same price as your new H500 but painted black. I aint muck liking dark colors and would need to repaint. Also not sure I would do well flying with such low profile landing gear. How much different is it to land your coast guard bird versus pod and boom?? Would you recommend this fuse for a 450??
don_m8856
06-11-2009, 04:37 PM
on the serious side huh ! OK here goes, the airwolf will take off and land just like a pod and boom cept its lower to the ground. now knowing how you fly I would say practice, practice, practice when you can take off, land, fly nose in, do a figure eight, and end up with the heli in one piece then go for the scale ! till then be the novice you are and stay in the hover area like all the other babies :p oh yeah leave the hat on OK !!!lollollol

I hate to agree with Don but I must in this case. Not the dot and tiddle nor the insults, just the premise. You are coming along amazingly well for a man with so many limitations. lol Sorry, but really you are doing great but as Don alludes you are at the point where crashes come slam out of nowhere. I really don't think that you need to rush into a "heat and eat" scale but stick closer to your original plan to get a scale and build/paint and prep it carry it out and fly it when and like you want. Then again it's not like you've had a few crashes in the last month so you may just want to wrap a 100$ bumper around a 450.
Seriously folks Skytrek is coming along quickly and should pass me by the end of august.

The day started out great this morning got to spend some time with my grandson and figured I would fly in the afternoon. After a fun morning I took off to the field only to arrive with the welcome pitter patter of rain then a full downpour. It was a good thing that Steve, Barry, bob & Joe were there to enjoy the liquid sunshine. While waiting to see if the rain would stop so we could get some flights in we amused ourselves watching Barry shop for things he didn't really need. I do believe Barry is color blind he keeps on thinking that pink is red or orange no matter how many people tell him its pink he sees something else lol as luck would have it the rain stopped and we all ran outside to get in our flights. My new scale MD-500 (align body with TT mini-t mechs) flew great :D:D:D and looked awesome in the air if I must say so myself. bob is getting good with his flying as is (god I going to hate saying this ) Barry. As always the day ended too soon but with luck tomorrow will be a good day with great weather.

Another great day of flying:D got to the field early (yes my wife was asleep and I got to sneak out ) The gang was there and the weather was warm and the winds were a tad bit brisky. Managed to get in a few flights with the MD-500 and it flew great even in the winds :) I was a bit fraid to fly it but hey its what we build them for. The lama was in good form and did extremely well today, not bad for a rebuild scale ! I did feel just a bit sorry for Barry (skytrek) we did pick on him a bit much today lol but I am sure he knows its all in fun (we really do like the guy) He did manage to get off lucky when he sort of landed harder then he wanted to lol all he broke was the landing gear and needed to re-track the blades. One thing we did find out today is that Barry does not like stuff on his hamburgers lol he spent more time scraping off every thing but the bread then eating the dang thing  And thus ends another weekend :( shame they don't last longer !

Starting to get some confidence back after a string of no fault crashes. Now I don't mean I aint carashing, cus I is, but now they're my fault. (The point), If I have to pay for parts and do the fixin, I want to do the crashing too.lollol
Yea, we fellas do some picken on each other but it's all in fun. We have a great time and mostly laugh at the new guys, of which I'm one. Hell, even friendly (Bob) and I guy I've never met (Skip) was slinging crud yesterday, what the heck???. However, I believe we may have a new recruit as of yesterday too, Poor guy wont know what hit him in a few weekslollollol.
Getting back into a grove with my turns buy the end of the weekend. Steve and Don make slow-low-roll scale look so darn easy. So I gave it a try, not good, just a slight little crash. However, I went to the (Steve's Ford RC Store) where they carry most swift parts and got me some new landing gear. Chris showed up late with his newly repaired Logo. The test flight did not go well. He lost power on a full pitch climbout and by the time he got the stick to negative he'd lost most HS and forward momentum damage was minor but there is no way to figure out what happened.
A secret spy captured this picture of Voodoo Don summoning water and wind elementals. Though on further investigation it could also be him checking to make sure he removed all the nail polish from Fri. night.

Why you must have me confused with someone else, I believe your talking about that one armed, one eyed, pink wheelchair ridding guy named Stewart. I think he was driving a 1976 Ford Pinto at the time of the crash. Poor guy lost his boy friend and a classic car too. :D:D:D:D

Saturday at Debbie's was not the best of days for flying but not the worse either, The winds were strong but we managed to get in a few flights. I did manage to hard land the MD-500 today leaving it making strange noise as well as skytrek managed to do a few not so nice landings either lol again we found out we should not let him order our lunch without supervision ! not sure what kind of sandwich I got but it sure was not the grilled chicken also found a new way to eat a salad lol I looked like my grandson eating with his fingers. Lets see got don a salad maybe a fork would be needed huh  still trying to figure out the relationship between Barry and the bob's big boy sign means but it sure got a laugh at the field when I mention it lol Joe crash showed up today! not sure why:? he talks a mean fight about getting back in the air but I never seen a heli with him  Steve found out that when your clutch hangs up and you try to start your heli you learn a few new dance steps as well as how well your arm is placed in its socket lol oh well maybe tomorrow will be a better day of flying !!!

Steve learned way more than that today.
Steve learned to fly blindfolded (after I got the clutch fixed)
Steve learned that when he gets old not to try and jump over the ditch like John tried. I'd rather watch a scaler go in than see an old lad fall in the ditch.
Steve also learned that at times the tail control push rod is optional. At the time the winds were blowing 20-30 mph and I had goten the xero-G back together. I figured I'd go out and heat the exhaust up for a retorque. The winds were stiff but fairly constant and hot as a blow drier. I'm flying around with my ball cap on this time, and having fun. Much better than that 0-15-0-25 mph wind earlier. I make about a 2 second trip downwind and start beating back into the wind. As it gets closer I notice something is hanging off my heli. It looks like the tail control rod! Wait that can't be it ain't spinning. Perhaps a boom support? A little closer and I can see them. Hmmm it must be the tail control rod. So I landed. It got into the tail blades and broke one but no other damage. This wasn't an auto! it was weathercocking into the wind and I did a normal landin NI. I guess it was windy.
Don was you around for Barry's heli wash? Oh yeah you were.

Sunday was another great day at the field. Cooler but windy. Not a lot of flying was done because of the gusts. We mostly sat around and swapped war stories.
Don had better quit picking on Barry or I'm telling The Broker!

Windy, Windy, weekend therefore I decided to make my 450 into a water craftlol. I was flying fine when a huge gust popped the heli up to about 80ft and I lost the tail and orientation. I tride to get it under control but had to hit TH. As you know this size heli does not auto very well, so down like a rock I came. My luck, the heli landed in a ditch with about two feet of water in it. When I got to it all that was out of the water was part of one skid. The rest of the weekend my buddies called me Swamp Thing lol, which believe it or not is better that what they have been calling me:mad:.
Met TaterTot was this weekend, now thats a weird dude. Big fella, arms like Arnold with a huge tattoo that says, (Got me some in Nam) with a picture of a Heli spraying VC with there main guns. He don't speak much just grunts and says (I like helicopters) but what the hell we still allow Don and Steve to fly with there Pink and Purple helis.:D
Good times even when the flying anit good. Of course Voodoo Don is going out of town foe a week so it will most likely rain or snow all week!!!lol

Well I guess you could say I got lucky but I don't fell very lucky. I would seem helis don't like water much, I lost the ESC and one H65 servo. The ESC was a cheap-o so not a big deal. I was mainly worried about the GY401 and a brand new S9257 I had just put on the tail that morning. The good news, they made it and the receiver too.!!:D

He did indeed get lucky! With all the dry surfaces around, to hit that small slit ditch had to be luck!

At least I ain't trying to fly blindfolded. Even though you were successful with your magic show, the flying without a control rod was a little over the top. Show off!!lollollollol
For Steve's next trick, he will fly without main blades. :D:D
Naaa, must admit, they were truly amazing saves.
I can't even manage not crashing with my heli intact.

Close, I just got back from debbie's where I did one flight with the xero-G and bought a new heli. My next trick will be flying with 3 main blades.
In the only flight today I had 2 settling with power incidents while nose in and close. Wind was in my face and coming back from down wind and the wind died down to my air speed and down she comes. I put in some collective and pushed the nose down wondering what it all looks like coming out towards me. Looks darn unsettling seing that much of a tilt on the rotors that close. If there was anyone lookin I doubt they would have noticed anything since I lost about 3' and gained about 4. I flew around for a while staying out of that envelope and then started doing it again and of course it happened again. Never happened 100yards downwind but again at about 4' high and 50' downwind NI. This time I had the presence of mind to roll a little R ailerons in and some collective to continue the circuit.

Voodoo Don, you out there?? I believe you will be back from your trip this weekend so.... We would a appreciate some good flying weather, thinking 78ish with winds steady about 5-8 would be nice. Steve has a new bird he bought from Richard and would like to fly it.
Hey, weren't you supposed to be buying a different heli from Richard?? Geee, I wonder??lollol Maybe your check ain't no good??lollollollol

Actually he was supposed to be buying the one I got. :D He said he was going to "plan B" whatever that is. For some reason I didn't pursue it, simply hung up and told Richard I'd take it.

Here is my next project, 30 size Army Jet Ranger. This is a used fuse that I just picked up and will be fitted to one of my Swifts. If I have this figured correctly the frame should slide right in with little fuss. I will however have to build some mounts and do some tweaking. This will be my first fuse fitting so who knows what I will end up with. Wish me luck.

Weather report for Saturday and Sunday. Looks gloomy for the Norfolk area I foresee high winds and downpours of rain all day both day lol now if you were in Kings Bay Ga. the weather will be sunny and mild with winds from 1 to 4 mph. sucks to be you guys in VA huh lol lol lol !! If you have not figured it out I got extended here till Tuesday:x:x:x

Nah you ain't here, so I have to agree with the weather guessers
Sat
Partly sunny. A slight chance of showers in the morning. Highs in the upper 80s. North winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.Sun
Partly sunny. Highs in the upper 80s. Northwest winds around 5 mph...becoming northeast around 5 mph in the afternoon.I'm a hoping anyway! but since the same report is going on for most of a week they can't be off by a day (or so) as normal. The weather is so nice Skytrek probably can't get permission to come out. He has my # so if he calls me and sets it up I'll call him back and he can claim that aliens abducted a store manager, poached an egg, made a blithering idiot of the cashier on isle 3, squared all the shopping cart wheels,AND STOLE BEER! at one of his stores.
I'm getting out early for a fiddlethon of scale proportions on Sat to fly the 2 Eurocopters around poorly.

Well ifn someone would answer the phone we might be on the same page. I will see you in the morning and since you don't have a real job, it's your turn to bring the coffee and donuts!! Seems all you do for work is play with other peoples PC's all day looking for hidden porn to black male them with:D . I don't call that work, more of a PC investigator.
Don just does not want to come back because Richard would not take his check, so he had to sell the heli to you instead. We understand Don, you keep working OT and next time you can pay cash. :D

Called you back, Tag your it.
Generally no checks involved . I gave Richard dead presidents to do with as he pleases (as did you in our deal). Don's word is gospel, as is yours. You are mixed up with a no nonsense (well in those matters) crowd. I'm sure you know this as you lived through the other Swift sale.
Nope all I do is fix OP computers and then fetter away the rest of the day tinkering with stuff. Thus is me lot, and the church yard is only four lanes of "frogger" away. No blackmail, he who blackmails eventually gets a hairy backed cellmate who likes to play slap and tickle for 10-15 yrs. That's a commitment I can do asunder. Honestly I don't look, don't notice, I just fix the confounded things. My life is pretty simply but it's too complex for having OP problems in it. I just want to afford to fly! PHwatt!
Last person ('twixt us) provisions the expedition? call me so I can remind you coffee (black) and a honey bun.

A great weekend at Debbie's. Don didn't make it back and the weather was GREAT! Sat was perhaps a bit hot and windy but not so bad.
Bob's grandson Adam was in for a visit and came out both days, Very nice young man who seemed to have a great time. I actually believe Adam and Joecrash are the only ones who didn't break Skytreks shoes once this weekend.
Sunday was excellent. I arrived about 7:30 and was all alone. It was so calm I made a puddle of nitro smoke about 3' thick. It looked like something in a horror movie, this blanket of fog was just begging for tentacles to whip around in it, or some guy in a hockey mast to arise. By about 8:30 the wind came up a bit but it mostly stayed calm through the day.
Skytrek arrived and received his new (to him) R50 from the other Steve. Excellent heli with lots of upgrades and everything about it topshelf. Congrats!
Joecrash received his 450 parts and Skytrek proceeded to help him repair it, all the sudden Bam!! they were bitten by a stripped 4$ servo. A set of HS65MGs fixed that and a few mins of setup had the thing hovering hands off for several seconds. Joe seemed to have a big smile on his face after doing some hovering with it. I think he's hooked now.
Skip showed up and did some great scale flying with his Hughes and MD, both are very nice looking helis.
Traitorous Rick showed up with a plank. On the 1st flight Sat it lost the prop and canopy, Sun. It stayed in one piece.
