Sorry but the camera op (me) didn't realize that you have to hit <record> to actually tape. I got one brief (5M) vid of the whole day. But I had a great time. I had curry chicken for the 1st time and 14 toppings. I hate chicken but ate a full helis worth.
I think my new home made camera mount is ok.
I think the fat boy in the red shirt should lose weight.
The guy (Rick) walking from the deck to the garage, wearing brown, is one of the best guys alive. He is also a RC heli pilot. He has been wanting to try planks for a while. I left him a SS to try. I'll later explain they are best flown while wearing a diaper, smeared with peanut butter, and a sign saying "I need a hug".
On the deck was an Honest to god, No crap, Rocket Scientist from NASA. Ricks dad. I see where he gets it from. (they'll kill me for this if they ever find it).
Great folks. Grand babies, nieces (newborn) so the women weren't bored. cheeks were pinched, 15 yr olds were flushed (my son) and called upon to entertain the younguns. A really great time for all.
So. Any way if you made it this far you can probably stand my video here (http://www.1upcomputer.com/images/temp/ff.wmv)
Fun good friends and helis. It don't get much better!
BTW The cardboard box at the end of the flight is ALL the land based equipment to record the vid.

Very nice Steve...vid quality was good and not as "glitchy" as other ones I have seen...looks like you were a little cramped for space did you set that up on one of the Coronas?.... 8)

Nice on borad video Steve! On boad vid is not easy to get the same quality as the regular videos.
..... But I had a great time. I had curry chicken for the 1st time and 14 toppings. I hate chicken but ate a full helis worth. That is important that you had a great time. I know the feelings when you get things accomplished.
I think my new home made camera mount is ok.
I love the back yard!

Can he help us mount a rocket on your RC heli? :)
So. Any way if you made it this far you can probably stand my video here (http://www.1upcomputer.com/images/temp/ff.wmv) Not only stand it but also admire it.

Thanks for the compliments! Sue PM'd that the link didn't work for her, nice to know I didn't screw it up, sometimes it seems stuff don't work. I can't get to BT from any computer on my network.
It was indeed on the full size corona. I'll attach a pic of the 75g complete rig. The notch is needed for gear clearance on my homemade modified crutch. It also comes in handy for removal/install as I can slip the thin part into the VE gear battery clips then rotate and slide into place. Really about like changing battery packs hard. :-) Next is a 9V regulator so I can plug in where the lipo alarm is. Construction is coroplast, blue FFF, and red packing tape. I make a new prettier one when I get the 9V BEC done. The heaviest part of the whole rig is the 9V battery.
Yes his back yard is a bit close which was why I only fly my "strong side" there. I do mix the directions up when the deck is empty, but with people on it, it's definately a "no fly zone". I'm a lot more apt to get into trouble doing Left turns on my L and R turns on my R. I'm getting better at it but needs a few more hours practise mixing it up.

Steve....thanx for the pic I remember first looking at the Corona layout when you introduced them at the beginning of Helitown. I was suprised at the open modular layout of the crutch and the apparent extra room gained by using a frame that is not a series of stacked boxes but more like an inside out box (talk about thinking outside)...
It looks like you are filling up that extra real estate with your experiments and also suspect you rarely ..(if ever) fly with the canopy on.. 8) I am not sure what the SS planker is that you left with your friend but got a good chuckle out of the diaper and peanut butter idea..
I am on vacation this week and decided to stay at home and chill out and spend my vacation pay on...(GASP!) RC stuff....lord forgive me for my addiction.. I am working on a Tensor 4D that is in need of new hinge tape...the factory e-flite packing tape is lifting.... which kinda makes me angry as the darn thing is new out of the box like that and removing the factory tape also removes some of the stock graphics...sigh.
Have a good one...laterz...Sleepster... 8)

SS is a GWS Slow Stick. Nice little ball diamond flyer.
Best hinge tape is 3m medical tape. The translucent stuff, sticks forever and the glue don't dry and very flexible. I forget the name but it's got "dermal" in it, like 3m flexiderm or somthin. Shouldn't be too hard to find.
Nope I never use a canopy. The stock corona canopy looks very '80s and is just something to get in the way, and damage in a crash. It ain't needed for orientation. I wouldn't mind finding a good canopy for like a 30 size to put on it but it's not high on my priority list. I'll wander into one on clearance and make it happen someday. To me the Corona is all about crashing. I can't use a sim so it is my sim. Seriously crash and just set it back up right and go again :-) Seldom any damage. As bad as 2d is kickin my butt I doubt I'll ever do 3d, but who knows what boredom will bring. Once I have no strong side or easiest orientation and it's all the same 3d may be pretty easy. I can flip an x400 and flop it around upside down but it's more me responding to it than controlling it. 3d maybe, flying? certainly not.
There is plenty of room on a corona. I don't think that big horkin hitec 8ch would work on any other 2.5 lb heli. :-) I need to order a couple Berg 7s but they cost a bat pack apiece and I need packs to fly so it'll be a while. The rxs I have are doing fine.

Yep I was showing the wife the other night my choice of tape...it is by 3M and is called Blenderm...wonderful adhesiveness and also feels a little rubbery it has worked well on my 40 size planker....=]

Sorry thanh, the vid had a hyper link like this one here (http://www.1upcomputer.com/images/temp/ff.wmv) . I found that if I post the link in the clear the spiders grab it and I get a fresh batch of bounced mail in my "catch all" . I only hyper link to my own servers now. I need to keep the catchall open on that domain. Just click on the blue "here" above or in the first post.

Thanks Steve! I missed that "blue" link in the original post. Should have pink/red/purple/violet color ;)
I can see the vid now. It's very nice & much clearer than what I had done before. At many times I wondered if you would fly into the garage. Finally you did, hehe. It's great to live in a good neigtborhood with great people.

A new onboard from today over at the church lot. Funnin' around (http://www.1upcomputer.com/storage/temps/11_28_06-1.wmv) A little larger area. It's across the street from my house and so it's my favorite spot.
You guys startin' to figure out why I like small helis?

Hi Steve :D
Just watched your video, I have watched all your vids and you have a very at ease kinda flying style, I mean you just whizz off and fly about as if it was the most easiest thing in the world.
You must have put in a major amount of flying time to be that confident or is it you are not bothered about crashing so you are more relaxed.
When I fly it is like absolute terror, I don't mean with the co-axials but any other heli I am just terrified of crashing.
How many years have you been flying to get like that?
The vid I love the most is the little moth, you fly like a partnership, its a pity I fly like an estranged marriage.

I've been at it about 2 yrs I think in may. The biggest lesson I learned was if you are scared to crash you never get bored. To me it seems that learning these things is boredom driven. If you are excited and scared hovering tail in that's about all you'll learn! When tail in gets boring you move on to something else then on and on like this sentance :) Some people are apparently goal driven and learn to 3d in a few months but I just fly for fun and have no real goal.
I really started to learn when I got my first Corona (last spring?). Crash with impunity straighten the blades and try it again. The moth and the other micros are just too dogone twitchy so a puff of breeze as you get nose in makes for a crash (that's all fun in it's own but not conducive to boredom). Eventually I would have learned as much with them but the stability of the corona really helped. I am also flying X400s and they are good helis but with my slow learning curve and penchant for crashing they'd stay down for repairs all the time while I came up with the $ to fix them. I'm pretty scared staying real tame with them. It's hard to get bored when in the back of your mind you know a tipover will cost 50$ and several hours.
You sound like me I'm a big chicken too. I can't wait until I get my Freestyle in and see how it goes. I'll have 2x the money of anything I put in the air now. Wonder how the nerves will hold up to that? It's supposed to be pretty tough and CP. I'm thinking I'll move along pretty quick running it with a low HS and the stock corona blades to keep breakage down, just dial it up as I go. Then maybe some 400mm CF and ???
Thanks for the compliments!

CF is like the kiss of death to me, I bought a really beautiful set of CF blades and the first time out with them I hit the dirt and that was the end of them, they were MS blades and really elegant, I still have them, I will probably cry myself to sleep tonight thinking about it

I don't see you having any trouble but it is true that the more money in the air the more nervous the flier
I personally don't take any chances if there is an R in the month I just don't fly

It's pretty funny but I was shaking and nervous on the verge of an anxiety attack in that churchyard vid. I don't know why but when I strapped the little cam on it was nerve racking. Not so much worried about the loss/damage of the camera etc, but much more like the butterflies that would come if broadcasting live on BBS. Ssssheesh. That was the 1st one and Mrs. Watson said the others make her too nauseous.
Later in the set a ch53 came whop whopping over and I was trying to fly while looking around to find it About 25 seconds into the flight. I spotted it and the tried to point the heli at it while it was pretty much overhead. So the vid gets a little spastic like, "wow, looks like Stevie is being attacked by fire ants". No fortunately I was just looking for the 1/1 scaler and then trying to get it on disk. This recording terminates when the drive got full so don't expect to see my perfect landing. cameo appearance (http://www.1upcomputer.com/storage/temps/11_28_06.2.wmv)
Oh and on CF I've been through a couple sets on the H2  80$ a pop

I'm not sure what to think about CF except the bling factor is kinda nice I just received a Carbon fibre canopy for my Rex SA and it does look VERRA nice with it on. I can get a set of tail rotor CF's for about twelve bucks and a set of
V 325 CF mains for $56.00 US plus $15.00 shipping . This won't happen for a little while as I have to work out some decals and color for orientation . Ever try and fly a totally black heli? I bought one and tanked it posthaste because I couldn't tell how it was oriented... 8) ...Sleepster

Steve you really should have landed while the CH53 went over, show some respect for the 1-1 scaler

Sleepster you may have tanked it but I bet it looked really cool going down.
I had a Hummingbird V2 I painted black and put sharks teeth and eyes on it it looked really cool, I didnt get any problem with it but then you probably fly higher than me.
The after the hack, I created the AP forum and moved this thread here again.

I don't really know why this old thread was brought back to life but..... dang! I'm glad it was!
This is an eye opener for sure, I have only known Steve and Don for a short time but have been amazed at their knowledge of this hobby. Most of the time I ask a question, and in turn, receive a dissertation in (Vulcan). I have learned to just shake my head up and down like I understand. Then I rush home and research all the key words I can remember.
Nice to know Steve was once a beginner too and was not made out of discarded heli parts!! Steve flying 400's and liking it!!
The videos look like film cuts from "Dawn of the Dead"!!! I keep waiting for the zombies come running out. I thought I saw one but nope, it was just Steve. Cracks me up:D:D!!
Keep this old stuff coming!!!:D
