Hi Guy's,
Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this so called "after run"! I don't ever hear anything about it on any of the forums, or in the magazines, or any where else for that matter. There must be a lot of beginners that don't know it even exists. I have never been told about it by any LHS
What is it? what does it do? how often do you use it? I was told today, only because I asked about it, that the man behind the counter said he only ever used it if he was going to put his heli away for a few months!!
Does any one know if there is an alternative? :?:

Hi Ranger, :D
After run oil is used to protect the engine from rust and corrosion, it is usually used if the heli is going to be put away for a few weeks.
The nitro fuel is very corrosive and the oil helps to dissipate it in the engine also helps lube it as well.
Other members may be able to give you a more technical answer but that is basically its function.

Hi Sue,
I just thought a few of the beginners would like to know about this one too,
is it just light oil? could you possibly use "3 in 1 handy oil" a very light machine oil with anti-rust capabilities?

I did not know what the After Run oil is used for? Sue shared that After run oil is used to protect the engine from rust and corrosion, it is usually used if the heli is going to be put away for a few weeks. I always use Trinity oild for everything.

It is a little more than just oil, it neutralizes the burnt fuel / oil that is still in the engine, that's the cause of corrosion. At a few $$ a bottle worth using if you know your not going to run the engine for a while.

I have used in a second hand engine I bought and that I won't be running for a while. Good for scale as you would only fly on low wind nice days, just in case

Another thing you can do to protect your nitro innards and stop oil from dripping out of your carb intake is use those handy little foam ear protection barrels , they compress nicely and are easy to pop out when you want to fire her up after winter.... =]

Thanks Guys,
I'll go get some!! and I'm sure all the other newbies thank you as well. and I'll also get some ear plugs(for my heli)

G-MRM,

I bought that engine with a Rappy 50 fan already fitted, looks like he held the fan hub with some sort of 'shifter' I have made a tool to hold the fan, bolts onto the fan hub using the clutch fixing holes !! While we are on this subjust never use a piston locking tool that enters the glow plug hole, this is a bad way to stop the engine moving !! More on this later with a photo !!

G-MRM,
thanks for the tip, I'll look forward to the photo's and while we're at it, maybe a pic of your home made tool.
perhaps we could start a new thread on our custom crafted tools that we could all have a go at making!

Hi All :D
I think it would be a good idea to put our custom made tools in http://helitown.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=28 I will ask G-MRM to submit a post to start it off.
Oh and by the way I love the avatar Ranger.

Hi Sue and Ranger, this is a great suggestion. It is right on time for me to put one out there.
