I have been to the Manufactures website and I know what
The Co-Co part of the Esky Lama means. Although I haven't
commited it to memory yet. So don't ask!
But I don't get what the Lama part of the name means.

Anyone?

If I were of the comedic persuasion I would suggest we could make something up.
But alas all I can say is it doesn't look anything like a lama.
Sorry I don't have the funny gene.

Thank You

While that was highly factual and accurate information,
that was not funny.

I thought for sure this was involved in some way.

Thanks Swatson I really do appreciate the info.
It's been awhile since I "studied" helicopters.
But does that bear any resemblance to a Bell Hughy?
Like I said it's been a long while.

Hi FlyingBlender :D
Actually thats not a Lama thats an Alpaca
neither the Lama nor the Alpaca bears any resemblance to a UH1 (Bell Huey), to my mind the best looking helicopter ever.

He's probably talking about the H-13 there is a mild resemblance. I don't know much about the full size but I've road in a bunch of them compliments of the gumment. I liked the UH1s because they were just well pleasant, and came back often enough for me. I'd ride the ch-46s in any varient, and gladly turn the drum pump to keep the hydraulic fluid level (if they weren't leaking they were MT). I couldn't be dragged onto a CH-53D. This was all in the '80s.

Yep, I'd get in an Iriquious any day. A bit rough around the edges but totally functional and reliable. A Sea King- , I'd fix em, but you wouldnt get me flying in one.

A big laugh was a squadron mate pocketing a hand ful of spare rotor bolts just befor a flight in an Iriquois. About 500ft in the air he bends over and says to the co pilot, hey, I just remembered I hadnt fitted these yet! The cave man ( our nick name for passenger compartment crew member/observer/winch operator etc) grabbed my mate by his harness as both pilots went white, hooked up the winch cable and shouted at my mate - well you bloody well get out there and fit them then!, then pushed my mate towards the open door. The rest of us were killing our selves laughing, my mate took his turn turning white. The pilot landed at the extreme end of the field, kicked my mate out and made him walk all the way back tot he hanger, about 5 miles as he had to follow the perimeter fence and not cross the runway as it was active at the time.

No problem Ozzyeureka :D I think I started it by mentioning the UH1
and any more of your recolections of flying in these wonderful machines would be very welcome and that goes for you to Steve, I could never hear enough about them from people who have actually flown them
:D
