Steve, Ozzyeureka :D
I believe that they were called Slicks,Gunships and Dustoffs dependng on what their job was. The Slicks and Gunships I can understand but Dustoff, where does that come from? I would have thought they would have been called Evac's or something similar.
Also were they different mechanically ?

I have a project that I will get off the ground one day to make a 1/24th scale UH1 model using a hummingbird v3. I found this project in a copy of Rotorworld back in 2005 and would have made it by now but stupidly forgot the project and sold my hummer.

A very good book to read is "Chickenhawk", by Robert Mason. He was a slick pilot and this is essentially his autobiography.

"DUSTOFF" was actually the callsign of the first medivac helicopter unit, the 57th Medical detachment, when it arrived in Vietnam in 1962. At the time, the country was dry and dusty and obviously all landings blew the stuff over men lying on the ground. Eventually all medivac helicopters assumed this callsign and it's now synonymous with casualty evacuation.

I will most definatly look for that book, thanks Fireant :)
Guys
Does anyone know the web address of a site I forgot to bookmark and cannot find again.

It basically listed information on UH-1B U.S Army Helicopters by their tail numbers.
It listed the crew, how much was paid for it, what unit it belonged to also about its service history, what damage it took in combat etc.
This site was a mine of info on the Huey and I would very much like to find it again.
I get the feeling it was a veteran's site where they could put in a heli number and find out what happened to it.
Tried and tried to find it but no luck could be its not on the web anymore but if anyone can find it or similar I will be very grateful.

All medivacs are called dust offs now. A ship with nothing more than two 50cal. guns were "slicks". The one you missed is the "Hog". With Grande launcher though the nose (250 of them ran between the pilots on a belt) and pods on each side to carry rockets and other cool stuff. Thus the slick, or clean look of the unarmed UH-1. All were single power plants then.
