Rc helicopters?

hi my name is grant and i am wanting to get in to rc helicopters after 5 years of thinking about it. first of all i have no idea what kind of rc helicopter i should get for my first heli and second of all i am wanting an electric one because the gas used in the nitro ones are expensive and i hate mixing gas. i am also looking for a big one the size of the trex 450 or walkera dragonfly 60 and with it i prefer a 6 or more chanel transmitter or remote. i also need to know where the closest rc helicopter place near tillsonburg ontario is and how much they are and if anyone has any good sites i should learn or get advice from i will look in to them. I have $550 to spent. your answers will be highly appreciated. thank you.

I take it you are looking for a RTF with everything in one box?

Where will you be flying? size of the lot etc.

The best thing for you to do is contact the RC governing body in Canada. I.e. the equivalent to the AMA. They should be able to tell you about clubs in your area. Also try and locate your nearest RC hobby shop. Not any toy shop, but one that deals with reputable RC products. If you are looking at the Trex450 size helicopter, you could also look at local indoor flying events as well.

If you find a club near to you, visit it and see what other pilots are flying. That will give you a good idea of what model to get in terms of ease of build, setup and repair.

If you are seriously thinking of getting into helicopters, you must be prepared to spend a fair amount of money as the cheap models you may see on the internet or local toy shops are just that...Cheap!

Lastly, and the best investment in this hobby, look at buying a good simulator. Popular ones or Realflight, Phoenix and Reflex. Realflight and Reflex come with a basic transmitter which will give you an idea of how the controls work.
