Well, I think I'm ready. I bought a new snowboard for x-mas last year. After a couple of trips to the local mountain I was getting pretty sick of falling. I think my head is still sore. I'll certainly give it a try again. Hopefully I can learn to fall without hurting myself.

medtech,
After you learn to fall without hurting yourself, can you share with us, please. When we go snowboarding this time, I will just watch and take picture for my family only.

I've been skiing for 15 years and got sick of it so finally switched to snowboarding. I'll say that a full speed wipeout on skiis is nothing compared to a 2 mph fall on a snowboard. It sucks. You either face plant into the snow or land on your ass and then bang your head into the ground? There must be a secret to this thing?

its just balance. figure out if you ride regular or goofy. which is finding out what side you feel more comfortable standing. lean forward and make use of your whole body.

one of the most important things is getting the right boots. if you are renting you dont really have much choice. but either get the same size you wear normally in shoes or a size down.

the lining will mold to your foot and if you get a boot that is too large you will not be able to maneuvure very well causing you to fall more often.

angling your bindings can also make or break your experience. most rental places have bindings set to 90 degrees for both feet. for me i do +15 degrees for the front and -15 degrees for the back. its what i find most comfortable and allows me to be able to ride switch easily.

my first day it took me about 10-15 minutes to get used to staying up after that i was up on the advanced runs shortly. i never went on the bunny slopes and just learned on the beginner trails. just don't give up. it is really an easy sport to pickup that is quite enjoyable.

snowboarding > skiing any day. 8)
