Well, my backup / 2nd Raven had been flying well for a few months now, it came second hand to me with a West engine. Some said they did not like the West unit but I found it gave good power, easy to start, no problem, until this weekend......

Saturday came and Raven 2 was first to take to the sky, started Ok but did not sound correct, but, to the flight line I walked, ready for the first flight of the weekend and so what if the noise was not the same, these nitros are all noise anyway !!

Just over 2 mins into the flight the engine stopped. at about 25 feet up, glad I had practised autos, down it came without a problem.

Back to the pits all looked OK, glow connected, try a restart, not this time, hard to turn and what a noise...

I had already bought a second hand T Tiger pro 50 engine, so after a day flying my Raven 1, and Sceadu (about 3 tanks each) and two batt packs out in the T-Rex 600 it was time to go home look at the West and maybe replace with the TT 50.

I will let the following photos say it all about the front bearing....

Today, Sunday, it took a while to get the engine running correct with the fuel I use plus it had sat a while unused. I found the Pro 50 has good power plus the tank lasts for 14 mins, just about 10 with the West. With the repaint of the canopy ( I did keeo the wolf) it looked good and flew well !

After some use or should I say a few gallons of nitro I found the engine putting out a lot of oil onto the front skids.

Looking at this I thought the muffler was leaking at the head. Turning the engine by hand I could hear air escaping..... Then saw oil coming from the head. At this point I Also found a loose head bolt.... Soon had that tight but still the sound came while turning.

Head off next to find running with a loose head bolt destroyed the head gasket. Parts on order and may be the postman will bring tomorrow !
