Hi, I am looking to purchase an RC helicopter. I am a total novice and I would like to start by buying one. Could you possibly advise me as to what a good starter package is? I have been told today that the "Mini Pred" would be a good starter package, is this true or have you any better ideas? My maximum budget is £200 ($391). I am quite happy to buy used. Thanks for any advice in advance. :)

colinrob, Welcome to HeliTown. Mini Pred seems to be a good choice in that price range. Does your budget include a transmitter, Li Po charger, etc.? You may have to pay some more to get everything together. I don't have it but got into researching about it once. Here are some discussions about the Mini Pred http://www.helitown.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=409

Thanks I think the mini-pred comes with everything. Was round the brother-in laws last night he had a little walkera I was addicted straight away. I was going to get the same (about £60) wife suggested that I get something that may last a bit longer and spend up to £200

Hehehe....you touch an RC helicopter or you are addicted. They are just like drugs. I agree with your wife to go with something better than a walkera.

You are lucky to have a very supportive wife. So get something bigger, that way it will entertain you longer.

I've been setting up quite a few min-pred's lately and they are pretty stable models. Some tweaks on the gyro, trims and hover pitch/throttle settings and they'll hover virtually hands-off.

All up, including Tx, Lipo and, I think, training legs for £200.
