Hey All...
I have been having a blast with my Shogun for two years now, I was thinking about selling when I bought my Rex last year, but the resale prices where so low, I decided to keep them.
I have 2 Shogun V1's, both are BL setups with Hub Dave belt drives.
I like the way the Shogun flies still, very smooth....
Best of all they fly very well on 3S 1320mah lipos and those are easy on the wallet
I tried to add pictures, but they didn't appear. :(

Hi HoverDown3K,
Thanks for being here. When you were trying to load the picture, did you get any message? If you don't mind, please e-mail me the pictures you post to at eddiemoth@helitown.com and I'll test to see what is wrong. I think it might be the size of the pictures.
I think that we are all kind of burried in the Trex crowds but a Shogun is everybody's faverite heli before Trex becaome popular. It is a decent helicopter, especially with the price right now.

Yeah I would have to agree, I have a Trex and shogun V2 and there both great helis. The only thing is at my LHS the shogun parts are twice as much as TRrex parts. I've been slowly putting my Shogun back together after using some of the gear on my Rex. I started to miss flying that little heli.

It has a DIY frame & strut & some trex parts.

I kind of miss it sometimes, but I'm too busy to fix it from my last crash (which was flying with a 450Th and 3S TP pack)

Yes I will agree, I know the Shogun parts cost more, but Heck, I remember paying $35 for the foam main blades and $12 for one main shaft.
that is/was just crazy, when the T-rex came out and main blades were $10 and main shafts were 3 for $7.50. It was hard not to buy a T-Rex, I really like both choppers and both have some pros and cons.
I wish the Shogon parts prices would come down more, I know they lowered the cost of some items, but still not close to Align's cost model.
I leaned to fly CP on my Shogun, and that costed me a fortune at the time, because of parts, now that I can fly, the Shogun doesn't cost any more then the T-Rex when not crashing!

Hey that is a very nice DIY frame!!! Very nice!

Thanks for the nice comment HoverDown. That frame was made with dremel and hand drill :)
I too learned to fly a CP heli (I gave up on FP before that) with this shogun. It costed quite a fortune! Every bit of plastic was like 9 bucks.
The shogun can be blinged to have some crash resistance now. But its main shaft is still a weak point. It cost $10 each. For around $8 buck, I can have 9 Trex shafts and they are stronger! I still miss the way the shogun fly. Smooth, soft and stable

I got my old Shogun V1 up and flying yesterday. As you can see in the picture I used some of my stock Trex parts to put it back together. Still fly's great, to think I almost got rid of it.

It's funny to think my Shogun is only 1 year old and it's already concidered "old School". Mine has stock brushed motor, side mounted gyro, frame mounted tail rotor servo(not on boom). Pretty much set up like the instructions use to show you.
Now I just need to get some parts to get my V2 back together. 8)

Same canopy on both helis

This is the kind of landing gear I need. They are really strong! Did you home made them?

Yeah, It's my bush gear. Great for grass or uneven dirt. They raise the heli about 1" higher and wider then stock. They helped me when I got rid of the ping pong balls. I made them from T6 6061 aluminum. I used a automotive brake line bender to do bend the skids. Very strong with some give. I had to make these because the stock ones kept breaking on me, but I think the Trex gear does a good job at keeping the heli stable and keeps it from tipping, there just not tall enough for the bush. 8)

I'm not sure this counts as a Shogun any longer but it started off as one. All the parts are Shogun upgrades so I guess technically it's still one. ??????????

Futura, How does your heli fly compared to one without the body. The reason I ask is because I wanted to get the M500 fuselage for my Shogun and the guy's at my LHS talked me out of it say'in they don't fly that well with them. LOOKS GOOD

Thanks for the kudo's. I've got two other shoguns (not scale) all blinged out. One with hub dave and the other with Heliup belt drives. The hub dave heli is getting a new CF Heliup frame this weekend.
the 222 is 684 grams ready to fly. Flies great and only slightly noticable extra weight. Does not feel "heavy" at all. The Wolf body is going to weigh more than the MD500 fuselage so you'll be even better off.
The shogun makes a great scale plateform because it is so light to begin with....compared to a trex or other 400 - 450 size mechanics.
The tail on the wolf has alot of substance so I had to move the TP2100 even further forward....but inside that fuse there was pleanty of room forward to do so. It ballanced out just fine.
I don't know what your LHS dude was talking about....he probably doesn't know what he's talking about either. :?

Thanks, I'm now going to get the MD500 body this afternoon. I've been looking at getting one of those bodys for over a year. The added weight won't bother me at all. My LHS is cool but he's a few years behind the times and his heli experiance seems limited, even though he fly's a Shogun.

I've never done the MD500 for the shogun....I did put an MD500 on my micro though those challanges would not apply here.
best advice is...watch your weight. Try and keep overall weight under 700 grams.
If you are still learning to fly, adding a fusilage with 20 - 60 hours of work into it will slow your progress.
Paint it after you are done with everything else and have test flown it with everything together. Dissasemble and paint...
Unless your going for a critical scale look...competition level, its best not to cut holes in the blastic shell. every cut you make will weaken the structure. This includes clear windshields. The clear material was much heavier than the plastic fuse material....
Though I grew up loving magnum PI because of his heli....that color scheme makes for a very ugly model. ( :
Full scale pilots don't have to fly thier ships from the outside at a distance....be sure to use light bright colors.

Here's a video. It was the first time in with it in the gym and I later found out it had a bent spendle. That's what was causing the "toilet bowl" oscilations you can see a couple times.

...it was too dear to be on my heli while I was still learning not to crash so often...I took it off. Its about to go back on another set of mechanics with hub dave belt and frame.

Here's my everyday flier.....
Way more heli than I can take advantage of but for my simple ciruits this baby is reeeeeealy nice to fly. I've got the cyclic turned down to 70% and its still way quick.
The JGF 400DH motor is simply awesome.
